Milford Township and Proud of It

This bus of the late twenties, early thirties, is not a Milford Twp School bus but it's probably very much like those in service at Milford. It would appear that it's a modified truck chassis with the adaptation much more obvious than those of the present time. Note the lack of bumpers, both front and back. Looks like a good "mudder" though. Drivers begin on page 175. See bus interior page 338.
Above: Harriet `47 and Richard `42 Comfort take a picture-time break on the running board of the family automobile.
Above: Harriet, Hattie, Paul, and Richard Comfort in about 1943. They lived a mile and a quarter north of the School on the west side of the road. Also page 217.
Left: This dim picture captures a moment in the dim past as Paul and his best gal, Hattie, go for a buggy ride on a beautiful day in their "courtin'" days around the time of the First World War.
Fair Time
MILFORD HUSTLERS
Glen Sampson `43 with his 4-H project at the Story County Fair in either 1941 or `42. The fair grounds was located at 8th and "Q" Nevada prior to ca. 1940.
Above: Cory Sampson, center, grandson of Glen Sampson `43, at the 2006 State Fair, sold his reserve Grand Champion Market Hog for an Iowa State Fair record price of $38,000. He is flanked by his parents. His Dad, Doug `73N, was a member of the last Milford Kindergarten Class in 1961. Sister Amy, left, had the 2007 and 2011 Story County Grand Champion Beef Calf. See page 240.
Above: The girls 4-H club, in their well pressed uniforms, from 1955, taken at the north end of the lunch room with the serving area and railing very noticeable. Also, even at this time, there is a "Lets All Buy Bonds" banner above the group and the edge of the 4-H emblem is visible to the right. Front: Jurine Borton, Judy Jorgensen, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Julie Cox, Sharyl Buchanan, Bernita Jacobson, Sandra Nelson, Nadine Safly, Janet Sorensen. Back: Gwen Jacobson, Marlene Morfey, Sandra Mortvedt, Janet Rasmusson, Shirley Grooms, Marcia Jacobson, Norene Hughes. The Club was declared the Best-In-Story County in 1954-'55. Other 4-H photos 254+, 274+, 279, 300, 319.
