1939 Girls Basketball Club
This unique photo, made from a quite small original, is the 1939 Milford Twp Girls’ Basketball Club. Unfortunately, there was no identification with the photo and only one player is known-Grace Molde in the back row right. They apparently played no competitive games but did play a few other girls’ basketball clubs from other schools.
1939 Milford “Flyers”

“This basketball season did not net Milford so many victories, but fine sportsmanship, courage, and determination displayed by the boys greatly outshone the other.” This according to the text in the first Annual produced by the Milford Students. No reason is given for the name-Flyers- and when it was dropped. Earlier, 1936, the teams were the “Bluejays”. 1940 Boys Basketball Varsity Dixon Harper supplied the following identification- Back Row: Stanley Egland, Kermit “Shorty” Sorensen, Ed Larsen, Donald “Red” Wakefield, Walter Jacobson, Ben Durby and Coach Harry Arthur. Middle Row: Dixon Harper, Arnold “Arnie” Nelson, Jim McCord, Leonard Jones, Charlie Sorensen, Harlan Harper. Front Row: Unidentified (probably LaVern Brooks), Forest Jones, Bill Brekke, Bill Christy.

Pictures enlarged from a quite small photo in Grace (Molde) Helland’s 1939 annual.
