One of the most valuable tools for Story County family researchers are the 13 volumes of Grave Marker Inscriptions which were recorded by the Story County Genealogical Society in the early 1990's. Each volume contains it's own index. There are also two additional volumes which index all of the volumes. This is a very well-done marker survey, with very few errors. (Of course, grave marker information may itself contain errors.)

Unfortunately, this resource is underutilized because the average researcher does not have access to the indices (unless they have access to them at a local library). That is why I have created my own index to these volumes. By checking this index, you can determine if certain of the volumes are likely to be of use to you. If you notice several family members listed in a volume, I strongly recommend purchasing the volume. In addition to the obvious information, sometimes you get clues to colateral lines based upon burial patterns.
