October 25, 1982. United Community defeated Collins-Maxwell 34-20 in Mid-Iowa Conference play at Boone. United led 28-6 at halftime. Early in the 2nd half, Rob Luther scored on a 2-yard run and the extra 2-point conversion with Rob Luther to Mike Lovig was good. Rob Luther scored later in the game on a 2-yard run, but the extra point attempt failed. Collins-Maxwell had 102 yards running and 250 yards in passes.
November 2, 1982. Mid-Iowa All-Conference team -- Rob Luther was selected as defensive back. Honorable mention: Dave Shaeffer, senior, and Mike Lovig, junior.

November 18, 1982. Maxwell Raiders wrestling team will open the season November 23rd at Ballard. Coach Deane Belcher said, what his teams lacks in experience, they certainly make up in enthusiasm and determination.
December 6, 1982. Colo topped the Collins Clippers Friday night in the Mid-Iowa Conference game with just 2 points with the wining basket in the last 3 seconds of the game, 46-44. Collins led by 3 points at halftime. Scoring: Dennis Lillard 11, Brian Ball 8, Joe Robinson 6, Keith Scranton 6, Mike Lovig 4, Randy Graham 4, Joe Hudson 2, Dave Struthers 2. Collins shooting was 37%.
December 6, 1982. The Collins Booster Club will again hold a Kids BasketBall Tournament. The dates are January 29 and February 5. The proceeds from this tournament will go to helping athletic programs in the new reorganized school district.
December 7, 1982. The Collins BasketBall teams suffered two losses at Steamboat Rock, Girls losing 68-30 and Boys 62-46. Steamboat Rock girls scored 14 quick points and controlled the game for the decisive victory. Scoring: Tammy Heidemann 13, Tammy Waterhouse 7, Mindy Carver 5, Karina Luing 5. Guard rebounding: Celeste Lovig 13 and 2 steals.
The Steamboat Rock boys team started 5 seniors and 2 reserves, also seniors. Collins scoring: David Klemme 17, Dennis Lillard 9, Randy Graham 9. Steamboat Rock won the game.
