July 14, 1981. The Collins boys rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning after 2 were out, to defeat the Nesco Kings in Class 1A Sectional play. Nesco scored twice in the 1st inning of the game and never trailed until the final inning. A single by Bill Dunshee and a run-scoring double by Joel Huggins cut the Nesco lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the 1st inning. Then Nesco scored 1 additional run in the 5th. Nesco retired the 1st two Collins batters in the bottom of the 7th with strikeouts, but 2 walks, an error and a single by Dunshee and a double by Joel Huggins delivered the 3 runs needed for the Collins victory. Dunshee and Joel Huggins were both 3 for 4 to lead Collins hitting. Dunshee pitched, allowing 5 hits, striking out 12, walking none.

July 16, 1981. The Maxwell rockets ousted the Collins clippers from 1A Sectional play at Colo, posting a 4-2 victory. The two teams had each won once in regular season games. Maxwell will face Baxter in the sectional final.

August 3, 1981. Baseball State Championships. In the 2A title game, Norway claimed its first State Summer Baseball title after having won 8 fall and 2 spring titles over the years. Norway season record is 38 wins, 6 losses. In the 1A title game it took a last inning rally to bring the title to Eastern Allamakee School District. This was the first year of a four-class format for the boys state baseball tournament.

August 5, 1981. Two area left-handers are among players named to the Fifth Annual High School Baseball Coaches Association All-star Team. Bill Dunshee of Collins is one of the left-handers named to the Class 1A-2A West Squad.
