Summer Softball and Baseball Season - 1981

May 29, 1981. Collins Clippers opened summer baseball season with a doubleheader at Stratford, winning both games decisive margins. Dunshee, Oswalt, and Huggins pitched no-hit ball in winning the first game 16-1 in five innings. The second game was a decisive 10-0 victory with Collins pitchers allowing only 1 hit. In this game three Clippers had 2 hits: Jim Huggins, Joel Huggins, and Oswalt.

June 1, 1981. Collins Clippers encountered difficult opposition with Nevada, losing 6-1. Nevada scored 4 runs in the first inning and controlled the balance of the game as Collins had only 1 hit.

June 3, 1981. Colo's strong hitting and the Collins Clipperettes' errors contributed to Collins losing 11-0 in a softball game. Kristi Richardson pitched, allowing 8 hits, walked 7, striking out 5.

The Collins boys opened the Mid-Iowa Conference with a strong 13-2 victory over Colo. The Clippers had 14 hits and received 2-hit pitching from Bill Dunshee. Kirk Cheville and Joel Huggins had 2 for 3 with a single and double and 3 RBI's. This game was the league opening for both teams, with the Clippers' season record 3 wins, 1 loss.

June 9, 1981. The Collins girls softball team was defeated 15-5 at Mingo. Joanie Hampton had a triple and Kristi Richardson, Phyllis Romp, Debbie Marrs, and Tasha Mullihan all singled once. Kristi Richardson pitched.

Bill Dunshee pitched a 2-hitter for the Clippers as the Collins boys defeated Mingo 5-0 in conference baseball action. Dunshee was 2 for 4, striking out 10, allowing 2 singles, and walking 1. Collins scored their 5 runs with 4 hits.

June 10, 1981. United defeated the Collins girls softball team 8-4. United was leading 6-0 with Collins comeback of 3 runs in the 4th and 1 in the 5th inning. The Collins team had 12 hits. Kristi Richardson was 3 for 3 with a home run. Diane Graham and Tammy Heidemann were 2 for 3. Kristi Richardson pitched, allowing 10 hits, striking out 2, and walking 2.

The Collins boys scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, 2 more in the 2nd, 3 in the 4th, and 1 in the 5th for a 10-0 victory over United. Jim Huggins pitched, allowing 2 hits, striking out 8, and walking 3.

June 15, 1981. The Collins girls dropped a 13-3 six-inning decision to Baxter on their diamond. Collins scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning and 1 in the 5th with Baxter scoring in each inning of the game.

The Collins boys had only 2 hits, both by Bill Dunshee driving in all 3 runs, slipping by Baxter 3-2. Dunshee doubled in Sesker and Jim Huggins in the 5th inning for the victory margin. Brad Oswalt pitched through the first 4 2/3 innings before relief by Dunshee; he struck out 6 of 7 batters to preserve the victory. Season record 6-2 and conference record 4-1.

June 17, 1981. The Collins girls lost decisively to LDF 17-0.
