COLLINS SCHOOL YEAR 1980-81

September 2, 1980. School convened on August 27, 1980.

Collins baseball team defeated Green Mountain in the Invitation Tournament at the Collins Baseball diamond 6-4. Collins scored four runs in the 3rd inning. Jim Huggins earned his victory of the season in handling the pitching duties. Joel Huggins led the offense with a pair of singles and three RBIs.

In the championship game, Bill Dunshee drove in all three Collins runs as Collins defeated previously undefeated Prescott 3-2. Dunshee homered in the bottom of the 3rd inning, then doubled for the game's final two runs with two out in the bottom of the 7th inning for the 3-2 victory.

September 9, 1980. Collins improved their baseball record to 4-0, defeating Steamboat Rock 4-2. Steve Coughenour had a two-run single with two out in the 3rd inning. Jeff Sesker added an RBI single in the 4th, and Brad Oswalt drove in a single run in the 6th inning. Bill Dunshee improved his season record to 3-0 for the season, striking out 11 batters and walking none.

September 10, 1980. Collins Community School District Elections: Gary Horn 49, Tom Lovig 46, Keith Patterson 47.

September 11, 1980. The Clippers baseball team will see first round action in the Sectional Tournament at Eddyville. There has been a fall baseball program in Iowa continuously since 1939. This year, only 45 schools will compete in eight Sectional tournaments throughout the state, beginning September 19. Norway defeated Prescott 9-0 in the 1979 fall championship game, and Eastern Allamakee (Lansing) was the fall champion in 1978.

September 15-19, 1980, Lunch Menu Mon. Beef burgers, French fries, relish, fruit topping, milk. Tues. Spanish rice, meatballs, tossed salad, cornbread with butter, jelly, fruit, milk. Wed. Cubed turkey on mashed potatoes, peas, peanut butter sandwich, apple crisp, milk. Thurs. Lasagna, salad, rolls, dessert, milk. Fri. Shrimp shapes, mixed vegetables, apple salad, pudding, milk.

October 2, 1980. Colo girls defeated Collins girls in volleyball: 15-6, 15-5, 15-3.

October 10, 1980. The Collinsschool enrollment has decreased by two students from 1979.

A piano has been purchased for the music department; the school is appreciative of the $400 donation from the Lions Club. The school now has a Wurlitzer piano for sale that is in below average condition. Sealed bids will be opened on October 20, 1980 at the school board meeting.

October 16, 1980. In the first round of the girls volleyball sectional Collins was defeated by Colo in three consecutive sets: 15-2, 15-1, 15-6.
