December 20, 1977. The Collins basketBall teams came away with two surprising victories Monday night as both girls and boys defeated Maxwell. The Clipperettes won over Maxwell 65-55. Collins outshot the Maxwell girls throughout the game, shooting 43%. Scoring: Tracy Thornton 28, Tami Kingman 25, Jolene Brafford 12. Guards rebounding: Rhonda Smith 9, Sue Long 7, Karen Ball 5.

"It was far and away the best game the boys have played the whole season," Coach Brooks said of the Clippers 83-45 win. The boys' field goal shooting was 61% in the 1st half and 55% in the 2nd half. Scoring: Doug Klemme 29, Kirk Patterson 18, Bill Dunshee 12, Marv Hampton 8, Mark Huntrods 6, Barry Dodd 6, Charles Fish 4, Mark Hudson 2, Tracy Armentrout 2. The Clippers season record is 4-2.

December 24, 1977. Rallies went both ways Thursday night as the Collins girls lost in overtime (70-66) and the Clippers defeated Green Mountain in overtime (56-52) in the first round of Star Conference tournament action.

The Clipperettes trailed in the 1st quarter and continued to trail until they tied the game at the end of the 4th quarter. The Clipperettes shot 41% from the field and 63% on free throws. Scoring: Tracy Thornton 29, Tami Kingman 22, Jolene Brafford 15. Guards rebounding: Sue Long 8, Karen Ball 5, Karen Barrett 4, Rhonda Smith 3.

The Collins boys began a rally in the 4th quarter, which carried through the overtime for the 56-52 victory. The Clippers intercepted 8 passes in the 4th quarter and overtime. Coach Brooks said, "I think the turning point was our press in the 4th quarter." Scoring: Barry Dodd 12, Doug Klemme 11, Kirk Patterson 7, Huntrods 8, Charles Fish 7, Marv Hampton 6, Bill Dunshee 5.

January 11, 1978. Collins celebrates homecoming: Monday -- "Goofy Day," Tuesday -- "Dress Up Day," Wednesday -- "50's Day," Thursday -- "Inside out Day," Friday -- "Blue and White and Slave Day." Also on homecoming week agenda is a bonfire Thursday evening. The homecoming game opponent is LDF. Following the game the coronation of 1978 Homecoming King and Queen. Queen candidates are: Tracy Thornton, Sue Long, Karen Ball, and Tami Kingman. King candidates are: Ed Hamilton, Marvin Hampton, Doug Klemme, and Kirk Patterson.The annual homecoming dance will follow the games and coronation.

January 17, 1978. "Its beautiful," said Colo Coach John Neumann referring to Colo's new school gym, where the Blue Devilettes played last night against Collins. But it wasn't much of an advantage last night," Newmann noted. Collins girls defeated Colo girls 64-60. Collins girls scoring: Tracy Thornton 33, Jolene Brafford 16, Tami Kingman 15.

The whole town showed up to watch the Blue Devils win their first game, defeating Collins 62-43. Collins leading scorers: Dunshee 11, Patterson 10, Fish 8.

January 21, 1978. Maxwell girls led all the way, defeating Collins girls 63-56. Collins top scorers: Shelly Heidemann 20, Tracy Thornton 18.
