December 15, 1976. Mingo girls led Collins Girls 46-36 at halftime and finished the game 68-52 in non-conference action. Scoring: Chris Dunshee 32, Tammy Kingman 10, Tracy Thornton 8, Jolene Brafford 2. Coach Brooks said, "This was our best game against a physical team."

January 3, 1977. Potential School Merger A public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Area Education Agency Office, 1932 Southwest 3rd in Ankeny, according to Bob Krause, superintendent of Maxwell Schools. Persons with written objections must have them filed by noon Monday.

"The Colo School district complained that they should have been considered because their boundaries are contiguous," said Superintendent Rampulla.

If the proposal is approved by voters in a possible February election, the new district will be known as the Collins-Maxwell Community School District and will have students attending from parts of Story, Jasper, Marshall, and Polk Counties. However, Kucharo explained the merger would be beneficial to the districts because of their small enrollments. Based on September figures, Collins has an enrollment of 184 students and Maxwell 360 students.

January 4, 1977. Approval was unanimously given by the Heartland Board of Education members present with a proposed merger of the Collins and Maxwell school districts. The proposal will not be submitted to the votes at a date still to be set. There is an appeal period of 20 days for any who object to the proposal. The date for the proposed election will be within 30 days of the publication of the hearing decision. The hearing on the proposal in Ankeny on Monday night had approximately 60 interested citizens of the concerned districts attending.

January 5, 1977. Collins fans had plenty of reason to celebrate Tuesday night as the Clipperettes-Clippers cagers swept a pair of Ta-Ma-Ja Conference wins from United Community. The Clipperettes raced to a big early league, then coasted home with a 64-52 victory. Collins made it a sweep with a 57-52 victory in the Boys game.

Collins girls hit 52% field goals in winning their 3rd game of the season. Scoring: Chris Dunshee 40, Tracy Thornton 18, Tammy Kingman 6. Guard rebounding: Sue Long 10, Karen Ball 7, Terry Hugen 7. Coach Brooks noted his team had played 2 consecutive good games.

The Collins boys moved their conference record to 2-2. Scoring: Jim Wright 20, Mike McDermott, Doug Klemme, Marv Hampton, each had 8, Jim Titus 7, Kirk Patterson 6. Shooting percentage = 51. Collins' pressure defense enabled Wright to steal the Ball 4 consecutive times for layup shots. McDermott also made some big layup shots.

January 10-14 Hot Lunch Menu: Mon. Lasagna, green beans, hot rolls, fruit, milk. Tues. Turkey sandwich, cabbage, cranberry sauce, bar cookie, milk. Wed. Chili, brown bread, Jello, cake, milk. Thurs. Fish sandwich, scalloped potatoes, fruit, cookie, milk. Fri. No school.

January 8, 1977. Collins lost a double-header at home to Green Mountain, Girls losing 59-55 and the Boys losing 55-46. Girls scoring: Chris Dunshee 24, Tracy Thornton 24, Tammy Kingman 7. Coach Brooks indicated only 6 turnovers by his girls. Guard rebounding: Karen Ball 10, Sue Long 8, Tammy Kingman 8, Terry Hugen 5, Tracy Thornton 5.
