January 24, 1976. Collins girls were overwhelmed by Maxwell. Obviously, scorer Chris Dunshee's absence was an added handicap with final score of 89-31.
The boys game was quite similar as Maxwell won 83-27.
January 27, 1976. Dolores Klemme has been named Collins 1975-76 Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow. Miss Klemme won the honor by competing with other seniors in the written knowledge and attitude examination on December 2, 1975. She will receive a certificate from General Mills, sponsor of the annual educational scholarship program, and become eligible for state and national honors. Miss Klemme will be entered in the State Family Leaders of Tomorrow competition in the state of Iowa.
January 29, 1976. Collins School Homecoming Plans are Set.
January 31, 1976. Happy homecoming: CHS cagers sweep twin bill. Homecoming was a huge success for the Collins basketball teams here Friday night. The girls won their first game of the season and the boys made it a twin bill sweep over Baxter in the Ta-Ma-Ja Conference. The girls had double-digit victory margin 67-55. Coach Brooks commented, "This was our best overall game of the year and also broke a 13-game losing streak." Chris Dunshee, back from an ankle injury, scored 34 points, Julie Lehman 21, Tracy Thornton 12. Guard Rebounding: Terry Hugen 12, Sue Long 11, Karen Ball 8.
Collins boys had excellent scoring balance from 12 players and 19 rebounds from Matt Carver as the Clippers made it a double-header sweep, 72-54. Carver also led the scoring with 12, Bob Huntrods 10, Steve Oglesby 8, Steve Lillard 8, Jim Wright 7, Kirk Patterson 7, Doug Klemme 4, John Huggins 3, Tracy Armentrout, Marvin Hampton, Mike McDermott 2 each. Collins shooting was 42%. They also controlled the rebounding by an overwhelming margin -- 48-25. Coach Ron McNeill said, "I was pleased overall. We are playing better at home lately.")
The homecoming crowd of Collins had a lot to cheer about as the teams won both games. Sandy Fish and Jim Anderson were crowned Queen and King after the games. The other attendants included Julie Lehman, Pat Reitan, Ruth Baker, Steve Oglesby, Matt Carver, Steve Lillard. The coronations marked the ending of week-long homecoming activities.
February 5, 1976. Mingo girls retained their 2nd place in league standing with 82-50 victory over Collins girls. Scoring: Chris Dunshee 22, Tracy Thornton 15, Julie Lehman 12, Jolene Brafford 2.
Collins boys had a difficult loss to Mingo, 62-60. Collins made 14 of 24 free throws and Mingo had 36 free throws and made 20 to provide their margin of victory. Scoring: Steve Oglesby - game high 24, Bob Huntrods 17, Matt Carver 9, Steve Lillard 6, Jim Anderson 2, Marvin Hampton 2. Collins had 42% shooting and only 16 turnovers.
February 10, 1976. Ta-Ma-Ja All-Conference Boys selection. Honorable mention - Bob Huntrods (Sr.) Collins.
