May 7, 1974. District Girls Track Meet at Urbandale -- Debbie Carroll qualified for the State Meet in four events as Collins scored 38 points in the Urbandale district. Debbie Carroll's qualifying events -- 1st 100 Yard Dash 11.2 seconds, 1st 220 Yard Dash 25.2 seconds, 1st Long Jump 17' 1", 2nd 880 Yard Relay 1:47.7. Other team member placings -- Cindy Dunshee Softball Throw 4th 187' 7", Mary Beth Kingman Long Jump 5th 15' 8". 880 Yard Medley Relay 6th 2 minutes 2 seconds.
May 11, 1974. Boys District Track Meet at Colo -- Bill Oswalt became the second member from Collins School to qualify for the State Track Meet in four events. 1st 100 Yard Dash 10.4 seconds, 2nd High Jump 5' 10", 2nd Long Jump 20' 7", 440 Yard Relay Team 1st place, 48.2 seconds. Other members on the 440 Yard Relay team are Jerold Fitzgerald, Keith Patterson and Mike Fertig. Meet scoring: Collins 24, 4th place tie with Maxwell and Garwin.
May 15, 1974. Graduation Ceremonies will feature guest commencement speaker William Hinga of Holland, Michigan. Mr. Hinga has been at Central College in Pella serving as Dean of Students. May 19, at 8:00 p.m. baccalauareate ceremonies will be held in the Collins gym with Reverend David Shaeffer addressing the students. The following evening, May 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the same location commencement will be held. Also at commencement the top 15% of the graduating class will be honored.
A Senior Breakfast will be held at the Christian Church May 17 at 9:00 a.m. and Awards Day for Senior will be held this Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the gym.
