February 12, 1972. Boys Basketball Collins Clippers were edged 85-83 by Bondurant-Farrar in the battle for first place in the Ta-Ma-Ja Conference. The Clippers committed 31 turnovers, 14 resulting in Bondurant-Farrar field goals. B-F had 23 turnovers. The Clippers hit 31 of 41 free throws. Mark Carver and Bill Crabb each made 7 of 8 free throws. Collins had a 44-28 rebounding advantage with Bill Oswalt 13, Mark Carver 10, Bill Huntrods 7. The outcome was in doubt down to the final horn. With three seconds left the Clippers had the ball for an out of bounds throw in. Steve Caroll's shot from the top of the free throw circle glanced off the side of the basket's rim. Scoring: Steve Carroll 23, Bill Crabb 15, Stan Carroll 13, Mark Carver 13, Bill Oswalt 12, Bill Huntrods 5, Greg Rhoads 2.

Girls Basketball Bondurant-Farrer shot 58% to down the Clipperates 81-70. The Clipperettes also shot over 50%. B-F led throughout the game with Collins scoring 24 points to B-F's 20 in the final quarter. Scoring: Deb Carroll 29, Jan Talburt 22, Donna Barrett 15, Sandy Barrett 4.

February 14, 1972. Ta-Ma-Ja Conference selections: Girls -- Deb Carroll, sophomore, selected on the second team, averaging 36.3 points per game. Boys - Stan Carroll was named to the first team and Bill Crabb was selected on the second team.

February 15, 1972. Girls Sectional Basketball Tournament Deb Carroll drove 30 feet and made a layup to give Collins a 78-77 win over Garwin in the second round of the sectional tournament. Garwin missed two free throws with 10 seconds left, Diana Atwood grabbed the rebound and rifled a pass to Carroll who won the race with the clock. Dunshee, freshman, made 7 straight field goals in the 3rd quarter and finished with 10 of 13 for 22 points. She hit from the outside, taking the pressure off of Carroll's inside game. Diana Atwood sparkled all night in the guard court with 10 rebounds and 7 pass interceptions. Carroll scored 41 points as she hit 17 of 23 field goals. (Scoring summary not found)

February 16, 1972. Collins (9-11) had a slow start and lost to Gladbrook 54-48 in the Girls Sectional Basketball Sectional semifinals. Collins outscored Gladbrook in the second half 33-23. Coach Brooks said his guards were fantastic as Diana Atwood had 15 rebounds and 4 interceptions, Cindy Kingman 9 rebounds, 2 interceptions, and Cindy Tiffany 2 and 2. Scoring, Deb Carroll 22, Cindy Dunshee 16, Jan Talburt 10.

February 18, 1972. West Marshall pulled away from Collins for a 77-59 victory in the third place game of the girls sectional basketball tournament. Collins made only 3 of 10 field goals in the first 8 minutes of the second half and West Marshall outscored them 22-9. Cathy Kingman had an outstanding game in the guard court. Scoring: Deb Carroll 41, Jan Talburt 9, Cindy Dunshee 7, Jodee Holland 2.
