January 7, 1972. Lunch menus - Jan 10-14 Mon. Beefburgers, cabbage salad, orange juice, rice pudding, and milk. Tues. Lasagna, tossed salad, rolls, peaches, and milk. Wed. Vegetable beef stew, meat sandwiches, lettuce leaf, donuts, and milk. Thurs. Pizza, buttered corn, jelly sandwiches, fruit Jell-O, ad milk Fri. Salmon patty, peas, mashed potatoes, plums, graham cracker cookie, and milk.

January, 10, 1972. Girls Basketball Record-scoring performances by Deb Carroll and Jan Talburt sparked the Clipperettes to a 75-67 win over New Providence for the championship of Star Conference tournament. Carroll scored 53 points that included 21 of 28 free throws and Talburt collected 22 points. The Clipperettes made 25 of 61 shots from the field and 25 of 36 free throws. Coach Brooks said he was pleased with the hustle of the guards, Diana Atwood, Teresa Luing, and Cathy Kingman.

Boys Basketball team shot only 27%, losing to Steamboat Rock 70-44. The winners made 22 field goals and hit 26 of 37 free throws compared to only 10 of 21 free throws by Collins.

January 11, 1972. The reduction in property taxes on a local level doesn't necessarily mean that local residents will have a lower total tax bill. The state froze the general fund budgets of the schools, but agreed to make up the difference with increased state aid--a diversion of tax collection from the local level to the state. Collins' mileage rate decreased 2.087 to 73.315.

January 12, 1972. The Collins girls and boys basketball teams avenged earlier losses to Maxwell last night. Girls Basketball Deb Carroll scored 50 points as Collins won a 73-71 decision to make up for the 81-61 loss to Maxwell on December 17. Carroll made a 3-point play with 48 seconds remaining to give Collins a 72-69 lead and scoring her 18th point in the 4th quarter. The game was tied at the ends of the 1st half and 3rd quarter. The lead changed hands five times in the 4th quarter. Diana Atwood's pass interception set up Carroll's basket, giving Collins a 68-65 lead with two minutes to go. The Clipperettes made 30 of 52 (58%) field goals with Carroll shooting 20 of 32 and Talburt 8 of 16. Donna Barrett scored 5 points.

Boys Basketball: Bill Crabb hit 8 of 11 shots and 15 points each by Stan Carroll and Steve Carroll paced Collins to a 61-43 victory. Collins team made 24 of 52 field goal tries and 13 of 23 free throws. Other scorers: Mark Carver 9, Jerold Fitzgerald 4, Bill Oswalt 2.

January 13, 1972. Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Maxwell edged Collins 37-33 with Jodee Holland scoring 22 points for Collins.

Junior High Girls Basketball Maxwell girls overwhelmed Collins 88-17.

Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Collins defeated Maxwell 71-38 for a season record of 4-0. Team scoring: Greg Rhoads 23, Guy Elliott 22, Keith Patterson 12.

Junior High Boys Basketball. Maxwell defeated Collins 36-23.

January 14, 1972. Homecoming Activities are carried out annually during the basketball season. The activities began Thursday night with a pep rally, Friday there is an afternoon film festival, and Collins teams meet SEMCO on the basketball court in the evening. Between games, the king and queen will be announced and crowned. The royalty will be presented at the dance that follows the basketball game. Queen candidates Kyla Stratton, Rita Caulkins, Teresa Luing and Carmon Clark. King candidates Bill Huntrods, Vaughn Noring, Dennis Stratton and Stan Carroll. Queen Teresa Luing. King Stan Carroll.
