The return of several lettermen gives Collins coaches Bill Brooks (girls) and Rod Larson (boys) hope to move their teams above the .500 mark this year. Brooks, coaching the Collins girls for 9 years, finished 8-12 last year with his girls coming on strong at tournament time. Brooks has 7 returning guards and 3 lettering forwards returning. Gone with graduation is last year's leading team scorer, Cathy Carroll, and forward Peg Mullihan. The starting guard court is Janice Hunt (5' 9"); Nancy Long (5' 5"); Cathy Kingman (5' 8"). Returning forward court are Joan Altes, (5' 5") (24 pt. average); Jodee Holland (5' 2"); Carol Halverson (5' 6"). Top candidate as starting forward is freshman Debbie Carroll (5' 5"). Other returning letter winners Teresa Luing, Nancy Mullihan, Nancy Long, and Cindy Smith.
Rod Larson, boys' coach has 5 lettermen back from a squad that posted 4-14 mark last year. Dick Huntrods (6' 3") center; Bob Oswalt (6' 2") (f); Stan Carroll (6') (f); Ed Fitzgerald (5' 10") (g); Rick McQuiston (5' 9") (g). Larson says the team has responded to his new offense, but big questions are defense and rebounding.
