June 6, 1970 BaseBall - Maxwell pounded Collins 14-1 on the home diamond. Maxwell scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning, 3 in the 4th, 5 in the 5th, with the game ending at the 5th inning. June 8, 1970 Two hundred seventy-eight alumni attended the 78th Collins Alumni Banquet held in the auditorium/gymnasium of Collins Community High School. Hosts for the banquet were: Mrs. Wally (Norma) Tjelmeland, Harold McQuiston, Roger Huntrods, Otis Huntrods, Dean Partridge, all members of the class of 1944. The honored guests for the evening was the class of 1970 and their parents. Three members of the Class of 1920, 50th year class, Henry Duesbury - Collins; Zela Hubbard - Brooklyn, Iowa; and Josephine Shearer - Nevada, Iowa, spokesperson for the class, attended. The class of 1945 (25th year) had Bill Pritchard as spokesperson. Twelve members of the 1960's class attended with Lois (Struthers) Norem as spokesperson. Master of Ceremonies for the evening was George Ballard, class of '62. The invocation was given by Rev. David Schaeffer of the Collins Christian Church. Richard Dexter, High School Principal, introduced the class of 1970 and they in turn introduced their parents. A carnation was presented to Mrs. Edith Stevens, class of 1902, eldest member and to Miss Alice Burney, class of 1905. Margo (Mead) Peavey received a carnation for the alumnus who traveled the longest distance, living in Cypress, California. Honorable mention went to Dorothy (Hand) (Jerry) Thornton, traveling from near Los Angeles. Carnations were also given to the Hale, Fitzgerald, and Stevens families. Each family had five alumni in attendance. The program was turned over the Paul Kuhns, music director at Collins High School, with music entertainment by the Collins stage band, and several acts from the spring Hi-Lites of 1970. The dinner was served by Jim Reddicks of the Wagon Wheel Café. The benediction by Rev. Grant of the Methodist Church concluded the program. A dance was held in the school lunch room with music provided by the Collins High dance band under the direction of Paul Kuhns.
