Collins spotted Colo a 9-0 lead in the first two innings and then rallied that fell short, Colo being the 10-6 winner in the season opener. An error on a fly ball opened the door for 8, 1st inning runs for Colo. The inning included 2 errors, 6 walks, and only 2 hits. Collins rallied in the 3rd with 5 runs. Rick McQuiston was safe on an error, Steve Carroll walked, Dick Huntrods safe on a fielder's choice, Bob Earles singled home one run, Bill Crabb was hit by a pitch to bring in another run, Dave Evans singled home the 3rd run, Jerry Adams was hit by a pitch scoring the 4th run and the 5th run came in on a single by Ron Beavers. Collins scored one more in the 4th. Bob Earles pitched: Innings 7, hits 6, runs 10, strikeouts 3, walks 9. Team hits 4, team fielding errors 3, team strikeouts 10. (Insert 2008: Lineup not found).

May 21, 1970 The kindergarten and 1st grade classes with their teachers Mrs. Niland and Mrs. Ose, enjoyed a field trip in the nearby country. The first stop was Roger Huntrods' farm where they watched sheep shearing and peeked into a dove bird's nest and saw the eggs. Next stop was Charles Struthers farm where students held the bottles to feed triplet lambs. Onto the Bill Huntrods' farm where he hitched his big Belgium show horses to a wagon and gave the children a ride. The following stop was Philip Romp farm to view little pigs. Next was Rodger Huggins' farm where the children were saw baby chicks. The last stop was the Ashton Recreation Area where the children ate their lunches and went on a walk looking for wild flowers.

The 2nd and 3rd grade classes with teachers Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Rens went to Marshalltown on a field trip. They toured the Strand Bakery Company plant and visited the Marshalltown Fire Department, Police Department, and ate sack lunches with the firemen. After lunch they played at the Anson Park playground. En route home, they were treated to ice cream cones by the accompanying room mothers, Verlie Huggins and June Hofer.

June 3, 1970 Awards were handed out for boys and girls basketball, boys and girls track, and boys baseball, recently at the Annual Collins Athletic Awards Dinner.
