February 17, 1970 Second Round at Huxley - The Collins Clipperettes, who had squeaked by in two close encounters with Mingo won decisively 67-44. Collins took the lead midway in the 1st quarter and ended the quarter 14-11. Collins was unable to expand their lead in the 2nd quarter as Mingo's 2-1 zone worked effectively with Collins holding a halftime lead of 34-31. Collins broke it open in the 3rd period on fine out shooting by Joan Altes, scoring 18 points to Mingo's 7. Collins guard Janice Hunt was a big weapon in controlling the Mingo rebounds in the last quarter as Collins again outscored Mingo 15 to 6 for the 67-44 win. During the last quarter Collins forwards pulled back, forcing Mingo to spread its defense. This was Collins most decisive victory of the year. Lineup: Cathy Carroll 36 pts.; Joan Altes 27 pts.; Peg Mullihan 4 pts. Guard Fouls: Nancy Long 3; Teresa Luing 1; Janice Hunt 3; Kathy Kingman 4. Collins made 26 of 55 shots for 47%. Mingo hit 19 of 59 for 32%.

February 19, 1970 Semi-Final Round at Huxley (Ballard School District) - Both teams scorched the nets with about 50% shooting as a surprising Collins team pushed the Ballard girls to the limit before losing 78-75. The game may very well have been won by Ballard in a 3 ? minute stretch in the 1st quarter as Ballard jumped from an 8-6 lead to a 25-13 1st quarter lead. Ballard took a 37-25 mid-2nd quarter lead, but Collins came back for a 44-33 halftime score. Ballards' defense started collapsing on Cathy Carroll in the 2nd quarter; (she had 23 points in the 1st half points). This left Peg Mullihan open who made 4 field goals in the 1st half. Ballards' lead of 13 points early in the 3rd quarter was their biggest lead of the game. With their guards getting in foul trouble trying to stop the faster Clipperette forwards, Collins rallied to within five, 50-45, with five minutes left. Ballard came back for 66-57 3rd quarter lead. The most incredible point of the middle two quarters was the Collins shooting. The Clipperettes' forwards made 8 of 11 (74%) in the 2nd period and 9 of 13 (69%) in the 3rd period. Carroll, Altes, and Mullihan scored early in the 4th quarter to narrow Collins deficit 70-67. Ballard built the margin back up to 75-69 with 2 ? minutes left. Collins came back with two buckets for a 75-73 score with one minute remaining. Ballard made three free throws and Collins two free throws, ending the game with Collins on the short end 78-75. Ballard shooting was 33 of 61 for 64%. Collins shooting was 27 of 45 for 60%. Lineup: Cathy Carroll 39 pts.; Joan Altes 25 pts.; Peg Mullihan 11 pts. Guard Fouls: Nancy Long 5; Teresa Luing 0; Janice Hunt 4; Kathy Kingman 1.

February 26, 1970 Consolation Round at Huxley - Collins girls made another heroic effort to continue their season in a high octane scoring game, but it was not to be, losing to Colfax 89-76. The Clipperettes had a 24-23 1st quarter lead and the lead changed several times through the 2nd period until Collins went on top 41-38 at halftime. Colfax took the lead with four minutes left in the 3rd quarter and held on for a 61-58 3rd quarter margin. The Clipperettes fell short in the 4th quarter, scoring 18 points to Colfax's 28 for the final outcome, losing 89-76. Colfax advanced to District play with this Consolation victory. Collins hit 27 field goals to Colfax's 35. Collins outscored Colfax on free throws - 22 of 38 to 19 of 36 for Colfax. Cathy Carroll had a career scoring record of 55 points. This was two points short of Collins girls scoring record of 57 points set by Vicki Mullihan, a 1967 graduate.

Collins girls season record: Won 7, lost 14.
