June 7, 1969 Several Story County schools, including Collins, were listed by State Fire Marshall Wilbur Johnson as violators of fire safety regulations. Johnson told school officials if deficiencies and unsafe conditions are not corrected by September, the state fire marshal's office, "will initiate action to bring about compliance.' The state can close unsafe buildings or fine school building owners up to $100 a day until corrections are made. Collins school was cited for kindergarten through the 12th grade. Thirty-eight schools were listed in the 19 Iowa counties recently inspected. The degree of infractions was not listed in the report.

June 10, 1969 Collins Supt. T. J. Reith and Mrs. Reith were honored by members of the Collins Board of Education at a dinner at the Terrace Inn in Newton. A corsage was presented to Mrs. Reith and an attaché case to Mr. Reith. They are moving to Menlo where he will be superintendent. The Collins vacancy will be filled by Wilbur Juhl, currently superintendent at Terril, Iowa. School Board members Mr. and Mrs. Alvis Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Atwood, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Lilliard, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hofer. School secretary, Mrs. Cecil Ogburn and her husband.

June 19, 1969 Baseball The Collins team could garner only 4 hits and one run as Colo collected 11 hits and 8 runs for an 8-1 victory. The Collins run came in the 2nd inning on a walk, stolen base, wild pitch, and single by John Hale. Bob Earles pitched: Innings - 7, hits - 11, runs - 8, strikeouts (?), walks (?). June 21, 1969 Baseball Collins errors in the 7th inning let Lenihan (Marshalltown) score the winning run for a 3-2 victory over Collins on the home diamond. Collins scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th for a 2-2 tie. Jim Titus walked, Jim Hale singled, and a double by Marv Huntrods drove in both runs. June 23, 1969 Baseball Shut out for 6 innings, Collins' 7th inning 2-run rally fell short, losing to LDF 4-2. A single by Jim Titus, walk to Jim Hale, single by Marv Huntrods drove in the first run. A LDF error allowed a second run to score. Collins had the tying runs on base, but was unable to score. Bob Earles pitched: Innings - 6, hits - 6, runs - 4, strikeouts - 8, walks - 4. June 26, 1969 Baseball Collins 3-run rally in the 6th inning posted a 5-4 victory over Mingo on the Collins diamond. Mingo defeated Collins earlier 8-2. Jim Titus scored on a single by Bob Evans in the 1st inning. Mingo took a 4-1 lead in the 4th. Collins came back for one run in the 5th. Three runs scored in the 6th, Dick Huntrods singled, Bob Oswalt walked, a passed ball, and Jerry Whitaker tied the game with a 2-run single. Jim Titus delivered the game-winning hit, a triple, to score Whitaker. John Hale pitched: Innings - 7, hits - 7, runs - 4, strikeouts - 4, walks - 2.
