February 3, 1969 Basketball The first double-header victory of the season for the Collins girls and boys teams. The Collins girls led off the evening with a thrilling close 66-65 victory over Green Mountain. Green Mountain had a 1st quarter lead 16-8, halftime 37-28. Collins girls had powerful 3rd quarter, outscoring Green Mountain by a 19-5 margin and holding on during the 4th quarter for the one point victory 66-65. The Clipperettes had lost a one pointer earlier to the same team. Collins scoring: Linda Carroll 29 pts.; Cathy Carroll 20 pts.; Donna Rumbaugh 13 pts.; Joan Altes 4 pts. (Lineup not found)

Tremendous victory for the Collins boys breaking a 15-game losing streak this season with a thrilling close 68-65 win over Green Mountain. Collins trailed 19-14 at the 1st quarter, coming back for a 34-31 halftime lead. Collins held a 49-48 margin going into the 4th quarter. The game was tied 56-56 with four minutes to play. Ed Fitzgerald supplied last minute thrills for the Clippers. Collins was in front 64-58, but Green Mountain moved back within one - 64-63 before Fitzgerald sank four straight free throws in the final minute for a 68-65 victory. Collins scoring: Marv Huntrods 22 pts.; Mark Atwood 14 pts.; Gordon Carver 11 pts.; John Hale 9 pts.; Ed Fitzgerald 8 pts.; Bob Oswalt 4.

February 11, 1969 Girls Sectional Tournament: First round - Collins vs. Maxwell 8:00 p.m. Monday night at the Nevada Fieldhouse. (Insert: Results not found)

February 12, 1969 Junior High (7th and 8th Grades) Basketball The Collins girls dropped their second game of the season to Maxwell, their only two losses, by only one point, 36-35. Collins scoring: Debbie Carroll 18 pts.; Cindy Barrett 10 pts.; Judy Holland 5 pts.; Donna Barrett 2 pts. The boys won their 5th game without a loss, turning back Maxwell 57-30. Collins scoring included: Steve Carroll 13 pts.; Bill Crabb 8 pts.; Mark Carver 8 pts.

February 14, 1969 Hot Lunch Menu: Mon. Meat loaf, whipped potatoes with butter, buttered green beans, orange juice, cookie, milk. Tues. Spiced luncheon sandwich with lettuce, buttered pinto beans, whip and chill with fruit, peanut butter bar, milk. Wed. Salmon loaf, tartar sauce, buttered peas, carrot sticks, peach crisp, bread and butter, milk. Thurs. Sausage patty, buttered potatoes, pear half, oatmeal cookie, bread and butter, milk. Fri. Dried beef and noodle casserole, cabbage slaw, cherry pie, egg salad sandwich, chocolate milk.

February 20, 1969 Ta-Ma-Ja All Conference Teams: Collins Boys - Marv Huntrods, Junior, named on the second team; Honorable Mention: Mark Atwood, Collins.

Collins Girls Honorable Mention: Karmen Kimberley, guard; Donna Rumbaugh, forward.

February 25, 1969 Boys Sectional Tournament: First round - Waukee found Collins boys cold shooting to their liking in an 88-40 first round defeat of Collins. Waukee took a 28-8 1st quarter lead and cruised on to victory. Collins scoring: Mark Atwood 14 pts.; Marv Huntrods 9 pts.; John Hale 6 pts.; Gordon Carver 5 pts.; Ed Fitzgerald 5 pts.; Rick McQuiston 1 pt.
