March 10, 1966 Science students to Symposium - Kathy Hunt, Kay Robinson, Kevan Stratton, and Science teacher, Robert Graves, have been chosen by the selection committee at the University of Iowa to attend the Iowa Science, Engineering and Humanities, Symposium held on the University of Iowa campus, March 24, 25, and 26. The students will have an opportunity to hear important speakers in given fields of their choice and to visit laboratories. This is a fine honor for these students as three of only about 140 outstanding science students from Iowa and Illinois take part in this symposium.

March 17, 1966 Iowa's School Lunch Programs are finding that food costs are higher this year. The average price paid for lunches last year was .28. This year's increased cost will raise this expense to more than .35. The federal budget proposal will lower the federal reimbursement to the schools. Many schools may find that lunch prices next year will need to be raised as much as .10.

Hi-Lites 2-Hour Musical Extravaganza - over 30 acts, dinner 5:00-7.00 p.m., program 7:30 p.m. March 18. Program: The Dukes, Variety Acts, Chromatics, Mixed Chorus, Dance Band, 4-C's & an A, Soft-Shoe Dance, Junior High Combo, Solos-Duets-Trios, plus 8 specials from "The Music Man" narrated by Denny Holland. Reserved seats - $1.50, General Admission - $1.00, Students - .50.

Grade News - 3rd: We have been studying about the moon and stars in Science. In Reading, we are starting a unit about important people. In Social Studies, we are studying house plans and building materials. Benny Long brought house plans to show us. In Arithmetic, we are learning to multiply and also learning to divide.

Freshmen News - The girls are starting to cook in Home Ec and in Shop the boys are finishing their woodworking projects and will start in electricity. Gordon Carver was elected Shop Foreman for this semester. In Algebra, we are struggling through the chapter on factoring.

March 24, 1966 A Music Contest was held at Drake University in Des Moines March 12 for 5th through 8th grades.

The Hi-Lites Program is over, but not forgotten as everyone there will remember the beautiful music for a long time. The Mixed Chorus opened the program with "Show Business;" Blue Velvet by the Stage Band; The Dukes with "Satisfaction;" "Try to Remember" by Kay Robinson; "Soft-Shoe Dance" - Carla Rhoads and Mickey Holland; "A Hundred Miles," by the Folk Singers; "Dipsy Doodle" by the 4 C's and an A; "Sound of Music" by the Sextet; "Tonight" by Bill Hamilton; "Red Sails in the Sunset" - Stage Band and Mixed Chorus; "I Can't Say No" by Marian Evans; "Barefoot" - Mixed Chorus; "Yellow Bird" and "Sand Man" - Junior High Combo; "Spanish Dance" by Patricia Escobar; Piano Duet - Chris Atwood and Mary Rice; "The Educated One" by John Kloppenborg; "Second Time Around" - The Chromatics; "Pass My By" - Laura Kimberley, Joan Chittenden, Becky Wright.
