August 21, 1962 The Collins Community School will open Monday, August 27. During the summer the tornado damage to the gymnasium has been repaired, new equipment and furniture has been added in several departments, and new lighting has been installed in several rooms. The building has been tuck-pointed and several rooms have been redecorated. New and modern textbooks have been purchased in several departments and an extra teacher has been added to the staff. School buses will run the routes as they did last year and pickup times will be about the same. One new auxiliary bus is to be purchased for use in case of a breakdown. A charge of .26 for meal will be charged for hot lunches if paid by the week, month, or semester. Single meal charge is .30. A charge of $5.00 per year will be assessed for book rentals and high school workbooks will be extra. There will be a local teachers' conference August 25.

September 12, 1962 Baseball - Collins led 4-1 going into the 7th inning, Roland rallied for 4 runs and a 5-4 victory at Roland. Roland had only 3 hits, but 6 errors and 11 walks by Collins enabled Roland to come from behind for the win. Collins had 4 hits in scoring their 4 runs. September 17, 1962 Sectional Baseball Tournament at Collins: First round - Collins had a 3-2 lead in the 2nd inning, but were unable to hold off Roland, losing 13-8.
