Richard (Dick) Cory (Collins School Graduate) announced that he had resigned as head coach at Collins High School. He will be replaced by William Brooks, 32, of Otto, Iowa, as teacher for commercial subjects and girls coach and Russell Hunzelman, 32, of Rossie, Iowa, as teacher for social studies and boys coach.

April 19, 1962 The senior class held a bake sale and a car wash Saturday and realized a nice sum toward their senior trip to Chicago.

Al Bell presented an "Alaska" film to the school Monday. He had a Husky dog with him and several Eskimo articles.

April 20, 1962 Pre-School Census - Kindergarten Roundup for the Collins school will be held April 26 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the school lunchroom. All parents who have children five years old by October 15, 1962 that will start school next fall should bring them to the lunchroom on above date for registration and instruction.

Baseball - After their 1st two games were cancelled because of rain, the Collins Clippers had good weather and scoring to defeat Maxwell 12-2 in 5 innings. Collins collected 9 hits and received 8 walks in scoring their 12 runs. Mort Dodd and Galen Smith tripled and Ben Carver doubled. Collins had 4-2 lead at the end of 3 innings and had big 8 run 4th inning to break the game open. Gary Pointer pitched: Innings - 4, hits - 3, runs - 2, strikeouts - 6, walks - 2. George Ballard was relief pitcher. Innings - 1, hits - 1, runs - 0, strikeouts - 2, walks - 2.

April 23, 1962 The 6th grade with their teacher, Mrs. Vasey, Mrs. Robert Hunt and bus driver - Wes Borts enjoyed a trip to Des Moines Tuesday. The group took an airplane trip over Collins, toured a jet liner, visited the capitol and the historical building. They had sack lunch at noon.

Dummy diplomas will be issued and graduation plans will go ahead as planned in those schools having time to make up because of storm day cancellations, according to County Supt. Clifford Metcalf. Signatures will be affixed later as 180 days attendance (of school) is required by the state. During the heavy snows of February and March many schools were forced to cancel classes because of snow-clogged roads. It is not known what action will be taken in the Collins School where classes were dismissed last week when water service was disrupted. A pump was dropped to the bottom of the city well while work was in progress on the well.

Baseball - Collins continued undefeated by withstanding a 3-run 6th inning NESCO rally for an 8-5 win. Mort Dodd, Collins' leadoff batter opened the game with a 1st inning home run. The Clippers added 2 runs in the 2nd, 3 in the 4th, and 1 in the 6th for the 8-5 victory. Galen Smith led the hitting with 2 triples. Collins collected 9 hits and received 7 walks with 9 batters striking out. Jerry Crabb pitched and Galen Smith was the relief pitcher in the 6th inning. Innings - 7, hits - 5, runs - 3, strikeouts - 5, walks - 6. Team fielding errors - 2.
