January 8, 1961 Basketball - The Collins girls defeated Milford Twp. 74-47. Sharon Bowers - 27 points, Susie Kilgore - 26 points. The boys lost 65-50 with scoring balanced among the Collins team.

January 10, 1961 Basketball - The girls pairings in the Story County Basketball Tournament, which begins next Monday, will find first and second round action taking place at six different sites throughout the county.

January 11, 1961 Basketball - The Collins girls played a competitive game against NESCO, but were unable to overcome early game deficit, losing 51-41. The NESCO guards played a strong defensive game. Lineup: Susie Kilgore - 21 pts. (free throw points - 15); Charlene Luing - 14 pts.; Sharon Bowers - 6 pts.; (Team free throw shooting - made 19, missed 12) Claretta Smith (g); Celayne Elliott (g); Rosemary Cory (g); Jane Dodd (g); Jeanette Long (g).

The Collins boys were unable to handle the strong NESCO team, losing 51-27. Collins trailed only 10-8 at the 1st quarter. Royals began hitting their shots, taking a 27-13 halftime lead and stretching the lead to 51-27 victory. Mort Dodd suffered a severely bruised hip in the game. Lineup: Mort Dodd - 4 pts.; Galen Smith - 3 pts.; George Ballard - 2 pts; Mike Robinett - 10 pts.; Jim Crabb - 7 pts; Stanley Granger - 1 pt. (Team free throw shooting - made 5, missed 9).

January 14, 1961 Basketball - The Collins girls fell before Gilbert in a low-scoring game 36-23. Collins trailed throughout the game. Susie Kilgore and Charlene Luing were absent due to illness. Lineup: Sharon Bowers - 3 pts.; Pam Snyder - 12 pts; Sally Coughenour - 6 pts.; Cheryle Partridge - 2 pts.; Claretta Smith (g); Celayne Elliott (g); Rosemary Cory (g); Jane Dodd (g).

The Collins Clippers went down to a defeat 51-47 minus two of their usual starting players, Mort Dodd and Jim Nichol due to injuries. Fouls dominated the game with 49 fouls called. Lineup: Galen Smith - 15 pts.; George Ballard - 3 pts; Mike Robinett - 7 pts.; Jim Crabb - 11 pts; Stanley Granger - 7 pts.; Cliff Dalby - 4 pts. (Free throws - made 15, missed 20)

January 17, 1961 Story County Boys Basketball Tournament: First round - The Collins boys made a first game exit with a 79-30 loss to the much larger school of Nevada. Nevada had a strong 1st quarter and continued control throughout the game. The very bright aspect for the boys and is a school record for county tournament play and possibly also a Collins school record was making 14 free throws of 14 attempts for 100% shooting for the entire game.

January 24, 1961 Story County Girls Basketball Tournament: First round - Collins vs. Bye. Second round - The Collins girls made an early exit from the tournament with 59-47 loss to Story City. Story City led throughout the game with halftime score of 35-24. Lineup: Susie Kilgore - 33 pts. (free throws made - 15); Charlene Luing - 8 pts.; Sharon Bowers - 6 pts.; (Team free throws - made 17, missed 14); Claretta Smith (g); Celayne Elliott (g); Rosemary Cory (g).

February 3, 1961 Basketball - The Collins girls and boys junior high teams both lost close games to Milford Twp. The girls game was 29-23 loss and the boys had a one-point loss 26-25.
