Insert 2006: Primary school news source beginning in 1882 through November 1960 was the Collins Gazette and predecessor Collins newspapers. The Nevada Journal became the primary school news source when the Collins Gazette ceased operation in November 1960. November 10, 1960 appears to be the last Collins Gazette printed.

November 19, 1960 Collins, Roland, get notice from State Education Department - Two Story County Schools, Collins and Roland, have received notice from the State Department of education that state aid will be cut off June 30, 1963 unless the schools make further improvements or reorganize. The warning was in line with recent State Department of Education moves to further reduce the number of smaller high schools in the state. Collins has high school enrollment of 76 and Roland 89. Schools of less than 100 high school enrollment were inspected this fall and 32 schools were warned of state aid cutoffs June 30, 1963. In Story County, Collins and Roland were visited November 1 by County Superintendent Cliff Metcalf and regional consultants of the State Department, Guilford Collison and Melvin Anderson. Collins Superintendent E. E. Jackson said the schools enrollment could possibly have brought them immediate restrictive measures except that the district has recently engaged in a school modernization program with new school science tables, cabinets in the elementary division, tiling the floors in the old buildings, new seats, and new lighting.

Basketball - Collins girls defeated Maxwell 55-30. Susie Kilgore paced the Collins scoring with 31 points and Charlene Luing added 13 points. (Insert 2006: Lineup not found)

The Maxwell boys emerged victorious in their first game of the season over Collins 50-34. Collins trailed 16-9 at the first period and 33-21 at halftime. The Clippers attempted a comeback in the 3rd quarter as they came within eight points 40-32, but could score only two points in the 4th quarter for the 50-34 outcome. Lineup: Mort Dodd - 12 pts.; Galen Smith - 3 pts.; Jim Crabb - 1 pts.; George Ballard - 2 pts; Jim Nichol - 10 pts.; Mike Robinett - 4 pts.; Stanley Granger - 2 pts.

November 22, 1960 Basketball - The Clipperettes had a strong victory over Clemons 61-39. We controlled the rebounds with 44 during the game, according to Coach Cory. Collins had a 17-8 1st quarter lead and 34-16 halftime lead. Lineup: Susie Kilgore - 29 pts.; Charlene Luing - 15 pts.; Sharon Bowers - 14 pts.; Pam Snyder - 2 pts.; Pat Kingman - 1 pt.; Claretta Smith (g); Celayne Elliott (g); Rosemary Cory (g); Jane Dodd (g); Karen Bowers (g); Charlene Laughlin (g).

Collins boys lost to Clemons 51-29 as their shooting was 19% and Clemons controlled the rebounds. Lineup: Mort Dodd - 8 pts.; Galen Smith - 2 pts.; Jim Crabb - 5 pts.; George Ballard - 2 pts; Jim Nichol - 10 pts.; Mike Robinett - 2 pts.; Stanley Granger - 0 pts.
