November 5, 1959 The Junior Class play "Snow Haven" was presented Oct. 30. The good acting of the junior class and work of the director, W. P. Skinner and assistant director, Robert Denton, made it an excellent play. The cast: Charlene Luing, Claretta Smith, Kathie Jones, Stanley Granger, Sherry Luing, Pat Kimberley, Linda Mullihan, Fred Etnier, Walter Nichol, Dick Rice, Jim Crabb, Jim Nichol, Linda Evans, Rosemary Cory, Celayne Elliott, Martha Shinn, Gay Hudson, Mike Robinett, Helen Jacobson. Stage manger - Linda Barker, Assistant stage managers - Sharon Bowers, Karen Carver. Mrs. Robert Graves handled the makeup. During the intermission, the girls sextet sang, "Some Enchanted Evening" and "In the Still of the Night."

Music Festival - Six schools participated - Gilbert, McCallsburg, Milford Twp, Roland, Zearing and Collins - were in the festival held October 27 at Roland. The band practiced from 12:30 to 2:30, the band and mixed chorus practiced from 2:30 to 3:00, the mixed chorus practiced from 3:00 to 5:00 and the band, which consisted of approximately 200 members, assembled at near 5:00 o'clock. At 5:30 a delicious supper was served to the students by the music mothers of Roland. After supper there was a dance in the Legion Hall until 7:00. At 7:15 the students took their seats for the evening concert. The band was first on the program with special numbers given by selected groups. The chorus then made their presentation. The program was concluded by the chorus and special band combining to perform the selection "Battle Hymn of the Republic." It was a great experience for all those participating. Much was gained from this festival and we are looking forward to having another one similar to this.

Kookie's Komments - Cheerleaders: Beverly Kelderhouse, Rita Branscomb, Sharon Campbell, and Nancy Kloppenborg are busy working up new routines for the basketball season.

November 12, 1959 Basketball - Collins girls started the season with a loss to Gilbert in an overtime battle, 31-26. Neither team could keep the lead, with the regulation game ending 26 all. Charlene Luing made two final baskets, keeping Collins in the game. Collins failed to score in overtime, losing 31-26. Lineup: Connie Bowers - 4 pts.; Susie Kilgore - 10 pts.; Barb Hickle - 0 pts.; Charlene Luing - 12 pts.; Betty Jane Kearns (g); Celayne Elliott (g); Claretta Smith (g); Rosemary Cory (g).

The boys opened the season with a 47-37 win over Gilbert at Collins. Collins hit 39% from the field and 38% from the free throw line. Gilbert shot 18% from the field and 56% from the free throw line. Lineup: Danny Long - 4 pts.; Jim Nichol - 11 pts.; Bob Dodd - 2 pts.; Gary Borts - 4 pts.; Galen Smith - 12 pts.; Mort Dodd - 7 pts.; Norman Spooner - 0 pts.

Jamboree - The Collins girls played Milford Twp in the first quarter. All the girls played with everyone turning in a good performance. Collins won their quarter 16-10.

C.H.S. Personality: Kathie Jones - Junior class president, secretary of our National Honor Society, plays basketball and softball. Favorites are: Food - fried chicken and pizza; Color - blue; Song - "Teach Me, Tiger;" Subjects - typing and shorthand; Actor - Jeff Chandler; Actress - Debbie Reynolds; Hobby - horses.

November 19, 1959 Music News - A boys glee club has been formed. The girls chorus and glee club are rehearsing the Christmas Nativity to be presented December 22. The junior high and grade school are also practicing for the Nativity. The concert band is also rehearsing their Christmas selections.

Basketball - The Collins girls suffered their second loss 74-35 at the hands of Roland on the home floor. Roland had a 40-15 halftime lead. Lineup: Connie Bowers - 17 pts.; Susie Kilgore - 12 pts.; Charlene Luing - 6 pts.; Betty Jane Kearns (g); Celayne Elliott (g); Claretta Smith (g); Rosemary Cory (g).
