School Reorganization - Collins Consolidated School board and the newly appointed study group met March 10. Purpose of the meeting was to acquaint the group with problems confronting our school and to give them access to all the information that the board had in regards to reorganization. A similar study group at Maxwell has invited the Collins group to meet with them on March 17 for an exchange of information and ideas. All members of the study committees were present Tuesday evening.

March 19, 1959 School Reorganization - All individuals in the Collins, Baxter, and Mingo communities who may be interested in a discussion leading to a possible school reorganization plan, are invited to a meeting in the Mingo Town Hall, March 27 at 8:00 P.M. This invitation is extended on behalf of the Mingo Commercial Club whose members feel that the advantages of such a plan for these three rural communities should be thoroughly explored before pressure from the State Department of Public Instruction forces some less desirable merger. Everyone is welcome.

Music - Seven Collins students were among the 700 musicians participating in the First Annual Grade School State Music Contest. Janie Lehman received - I rating on her bell lyre solo. Those receiving II ratings were Cheryl Hanson - Clarinet; Maxine Hunt - E-flat Alter Horn; Greg Robinson - Cornet; Jerry Crabb - Cornet; Freddie Altes - Cornet; Annette Sinnott - Trumpet. Those unable to participate because of illness: Jackie Tiffany, Ted Lawson, and Verlyn Noring.

High School News - Classes were dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on March 5 due to blizzard conditions. Classes were also cancelled on Friday.

On March 11 fourteen basketball girls, two managers, four cheerleaders, Mrs. Phares, and Mr. and Mrs. Cory attended the girls state basketball tournament.

Saturday March 7, the Collins boys' team went to Des Moines to watch the semifinals of the boys' state tournament.

March 1959 Collins Gazette Printing Done at Maxwell Tribune - Since the death of Richard Dustin, Maxwell Publisher, on March 26, there has been the need for a new arrangement in order that the Maxwell Tribune may continue to be published. With this issue the Collins Gazette and the Maxwell Tribune will be printed, in the most part, at the Tribune's printing plant at Maxwell by Carl Hoit, Collins publisher, and Carolyn Dustin of the Tribune. The Collins newspaper office will be open starting today by Mrs. Lois Hoit and business may be conducted there as usual.

April 2, 1959 Journalism Contest - Seven Collins students are entering the journalism contest sponsored by the Sigma Delta Chi organization at Iowa State College. The entrants are: Gary Hanson, Edward Smith, Douglas Gibford, John Tiffany, Betty Jane Kearns, Mary Ann Kearns, and Shirley Kern. Entries were submitted in any of the following categories: Editorial, news story, sports story, feature article, column and news picture feature. The first three place winners are named to an all-state news staff and along with their advisors are hosted at an awards dinner by Sigma Delta Chi and the Iowa State Daily.
