September 26, 1957 Grade News: 1st - We are studying caterpillars. Nearly everyone has brought one to school and some have names. We are watching to see if they all have pupas, most of them already have. Some of these pupas will not open until spring time. Others should open next week. In printing, everyone is learning the proper formation of letters. We have written several stories.

October 3, 1957 Back Talk: Cheerleaders elected by the high school are: Verlie Etnier, Mary Ann Kearns, Pat Hickle, Beverly Kelderhouse. Friday afternoon the seniors will have their pictures taken in Marshalltown. We are all trying to decide what to wear that will make us look our very best. Welcome Freshmen. You are now considered initiated members of our high school. You did a very good job of going through the antics and putting up with the superior sophomores.

High School News - A new system of the scholastic record and activities is being used this year. Each week the grades are compiled and any student not passing in one or more subjects is ineligible for all extra-curricular activities until all his/her grades are passing.

Junior High News: 7th - In English we are writing friendly letters and giving book reports. We are studying measurements in Arithmetic. 8th - In English we are studying parts of speech. We are also writing themes about our families and describing them. We are studying fractions and percents in Arithmetic.

Baseball - Cambridge won over Collins in what might be the last game of the season, 6-0. Collins had three hits. Gordon Smith was the pitcher. Lineup: Gary Borts - 0 hits; Pat Fitzgerald - 0 hits; Jim Nichol - 0 hits; Danny Long - 0 hits; Bob Dodd - 0 hits; Darwin Luing - 1 hit; Denny Sullivan - 0 hits; Jerry Dodd - 1 hit; Gordon Smith - 1 hit; Dick Rice - 0 hits.

Fall Baseball Season Summary - Scheduled Games: Won - Shipley 10-0, Farrar 5-4; Farrar 23-6. Lost - Slater 9-8, Cambridge 6-0.

Sectional Tournament - First round: Collins 1, Huxley 8.

Juniors - Jane Ballard, Jane Chittenden, David Derby, Gary Hanson, Edward Smith, Carol Downing. Sophomores - Betty Jane Kearns, Shirley Kern, Duretta Phares, Lois Struthers, Douglas Gibford. Freshmen - Fred Etnier, Stanley Granger, Kathie Jones, Charlene Luing, Celayne Elliott.

FFA News Officers: Pres. - Pat Fitzgerald. Vice Pres. - Jerry Dodd; Sec. - Don Evans. Treas. - Gordon Smith; Reporter - Jim Nichol; Sentinel - Ronnie Robinett.Gary Smith, Bob Dodd, Ronnie Etnier, and Fred Etnier went to the Maytag farm at Newton for judging dairy cows (Brown Swiss and Holsteins). It was a fine day and enjoyed by all the boys.

Grade News: 2nd - Thanks to all the mothers who helped with the second grade tea. We also want to thank Mrs. Gordon Holland and Mrs. M. L. Noring for the birthday treats this six weeks. On Wednesday we watched "See and Do Time" on T.V. and this will be a regular part of our schedule each week.
