Junior High News: 7th -This week in Geography we are reviewing the chapter "The World's Urban Areas." In Civics we are studying the chapter "People Have Needs." In Science we are presenting reports of our choice. Some reports on experiments are: Rocks, flowers, trains, and electricity. 7th and 8th - The Junior High basketball girls and boys teams played Maxwell on their floor and Collins won both games. 8th - Our class finally decided to have our skating party on May 8 in Ames.

Grade News: Kindergarten - We started our first pre-primer "We Look and See" and will start "Think and Do" workbooks. We have been learning to recognize colors and to print numbers up to five. 5th - We made Valentines for our mothers on Wednesday. Thursday, Mrs. Hunt, room mother, surprised us with treats of ice cream and homemade cookies. We enjoyed being her Valentine.

February 28, 1957 Pinky's Prattle - The Home Ec girls whipped up some cakes and homemade ice cream last week and enjoyed a morning snack along with some of the high school faculty who were hungry, especially Coach Curtis. The Ag boys and Home Ec girls went to the Extension Caravan in Nevada Thursday. Jill Kilgore is doing her best as she has the Sectional and District free throw championship trophies. The next competition is the State.

Grade News: 1st - Since this is the month of Presidents' birthdays, we have been talking and reading about Washington and Lincoln. We drew and displayed pictures on our bulletin board. The class watched "See and Do" time on TV to see and learn more about the two presidents. We played a new number game called "Quick-O." This game helps us learn our addition and subtraction combinations. 3rd - In Arithmetic, we are working problems with double borrowing. Also, we are learning to check our own problems by adding the answer and the number we subtract. We are enjoying Story Hour again now that Sandy Hay loaned us a radio. We find that listening to rich literature helps us develop a background for our own creative writing. We discuss the stories we hear and decide on good titles, quick beginning sentences, how to provide movements and action in the main body of the story and end with a surprise.
