Comments From Early 1950 Graduate - I enjoyed school and the good quality education in a small hometown community school. I also had good experience as teacher/coach in my hometown school in the late 50's and early 60's.

August 23, 1951 Collins school opens Monday September 3. The faculty: Supt. - E. E. Jackson; Commercial and High School Prin. - Robert Lawson; Kindergarten - Gertrude Vroman; First grade - Clara Brown; Third - Anna Meeker; Fourth - Grace Vincent; Fifth and Sixth - Mary Hart; Seventh and Eighth - James Hart; Voc. Ag. - Ralph Maddox (half-time sharing with Colo); Home Ec and Science - Abigail Masser; Music - Florence Lewis; English - Miriam Jackson; Social Science and Coach - Louis Schrader. The activity around the school during the summer is - the brick on the north and east side has been tuck-pointed, the Home Ec department has been modernized with new equipment, supplies and redecorated. Textbooks will be rented in all grades for $2.50 per year. Hot lunches will be served beginning the first day of school at a cost of 25 cents per meal. Cooks are: Mrs. Hazel Johnston, Mrs. Myra Vasey and Mrs. Flora Morrison.

September 5, 1951 F. F. A. Ushers. Bob Moses and Reno Milligan, local F. F. A. members received the distinction of being chosen to participate with the State F. F. A. organization in ushering in the grand stand at the Iowa State Fair. They went to Des Moines August 25 and ushered the afternoon and evenings of the entire fair. They received their room and board and two F. F. A. shirts for their service plus the numerous personal experiences and memories.

September 12, 1951 School Optic Staff: Editor - Shirley Smith; Asst. Editor - Phyllis Carroll; Boys Sports - Erwin Frerichs; Girls Sports - Joy Milligan; Features - Marilyn Carver, Dale Derby; Reporters - Mary McGrane, Reda Smith, Janet Evans; Typists - Virginia Mead, Carolyn Long, Bonnie Snyder.

Remodeling: When school opened, the students found the gymnasium and several of the rooms and halls had been redecorated and cleaned. The feature of these was the Home Ec kitchen which was completely remodeled with four new units, each to be used by four girls. Two new double basin sinks located on the west side of the room are set so they can be used by the nearest two units. The sinks are built into a work table which extends the full length of the room. All the remodeling was done by Prin. Lawson.
