December 16, 1920 New School Building sealed proposals will be received by the underlined up to 2 P.M. January 12, 1921 for the erection of a school building for the Consolidated Independent School District of Collins, Iowa. Bids will be received separately for the General Construction, Heating and Plumbing, and Electrical work. The building is 69 x 109 feet fireproof construction; 3-level building including gymnasium. Home economics area, shop room area, auditorium with stage, plus classrooms for grades 7 through 12. (Insert 2004: See August 29, 1940 entry for updated building information.)

The bids will be made according to plans and specifications as prepared by Thorwald Thorson, Architect, Forest City, Iowa. Plans will be on file with the undersigned and at the Builders’ Exchanges at Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., and Des Moines, Iowa. Contractors desiring plans may obtain same from the Architect on a deposit of $10 to guarantee return of same. The board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

The building site location was 60 to 70 feet directly north of the existing 1909 school building (See Page 47, Insert 2003)

January 12, 1921 School board meeting for acceptance of the bid of $72, 649.95 by M. A. Floyd Co. of Minneapolis (MN), on general construction contract using Bids No. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7. (Insert 2003: Also board accepted Capital Fire Range brick for building.

January 21, 1921 School board meeting met in adjourned session for the purpose of taking up bids on Heating and Plumbing and also electrical work. Board approved contract to McGrew Electrical Co. of $2,535.36 for the electrical work. Also approved contract for heating and plumbing be awarded to M. F. Binzhof of Marshalltown, Iowa for net contract of $18,998.50.

February 1921 Notice of Annual Meeting of Collins Independent District to the Qualified Electors of the District in Story County is to be held in town hall in Collins the 2nd Monday, March 1921 at 1:00 P.M. and closing at 6:00 P.M. Directors to be elected to succeed C. G. Vasey for 3 years and H. G. Denniston for 3 years. Elected H. G. Denniston and C. G. Vasey.

February 3, 1921 To the Patrons of Collins Consolidated Schools The efficiency of a school depends upon the health of its pupils and to this end we are addressing you in the hopes that we may have your help and cooperation in sustaining the health of the pupils and the community.

The State Board of Health has advised that the schools be not closed during the time of contagious diseases unless a large percentage of the pupils become infected. We feel that with the help of the parents, the teachers and the local board of health that our school will be perfectly healthy in a short time and offer the following suggestions for your guidance:
