March 29, 1951 The Future Farmers of America (F. F. A.) boys were hosts at their annual Saint Patrick's Day party in honor of the high school students and faculty. The evening began with selections by the swing band under the direction of Mrs. Lewis, Music Teacher. The main feature of the evening was crowning the F. F. A. queen. The queen was Carolyn Long and her attendants were Barbara Kimberley and Phyllis Carroll. This year's selection of the queen was election by voting at large with votes one cent each. The queen and her attendants were given beautiful corsages and the queen was presented with a dozen red roses. The remainder of the evening was dancing and playing rhythm games. Entertainment committee - Virgil Swaim, Donald Johnson, Howard Hofer; Invitation committee - Phil Holland, Darrel Moses, John Duesbury; Lunch committee - John Carver, Kenny Carroll, Richard Thomas, D. G. Partridge; Decorating committee - Reno Milligan, Jim Anderson, Gary Coughenour, Bob Moses. The lunchroom (the large room on the east side of the top floor of the 1909 grade school building) was beautifully decorated in green and white in honor of Saint Patrick's Day, a low ceiling of green and white streamers with a large green shamrock in the center.

Saturday classes - Because of the number of days students were forced to miss school from inclement weather, the school board decided to hold school on Saturdays so school will be concluded in May. Saturday classes will be held on March 31, April 21 and 28.

The Collins Adult School Council met Monday evening for planning. It was decided to have a joint meeting of the men and women's groups to discuss the subject of "gardening." With our country involved in a war (Korean) effort program causing higher costs of living, less available material, and a lowering of the standard of living. Every effort should be extended to provide as much from the home garden as possible.

The Gazette announces the forthcoming publication of a series of local children's pictures. There is no charge to the parents. There is no obligation to this invitation and no age limit. Parents are not required to subscribe to this paper and are not obligated to purchase pictures.
