By a combination of passing and fast breaks, Collins squad pulled away in the fourth quarter for the 12-point victory. (Insert 2005: Lineup not found)

February 1, 1951 Story County Boys BasketBall Tournament in the Nevada Field House: First round - Collins defeated Cambridge 38-35, winning two of the three meetings this season, won 40-38 and lost 38-35 in conference season games. First quarter score was 7-7 and Cambridge had a half-time lead 14-11. Collins outscored Cambridge 11-6 in the third quarter for a 29-24 lead and held on for the 38-35 victory. Lineup: Frerichs (f) 11 pts.; Liggett (f) 3 pts; Holland (c) 14 pts.; Carroll (g) 9 pts.; Duesbury (g) 1 pt.

Second round - Collins defeated Milford 53-32 and also had an earlier season win over Milford. Collins got off to a fast start, leading 9 points at the first quarter mark and led throughout the game. Phil Holland scored 18 points in the second half and had a game total of 24 points. Semifinals - Collins lost to the famed Roland Rockets 37-33. Roland jumped off to a very fast start leading 19-9 at the first quarter and continued hot shooting to have a half-time lead 29-17. After the half-time break, Roland made only three field goals and one free throw in the third quarter and Collins was able to close the gap to 36-30. At the four-minute mark with a score 37-33, Roland went into a stall and Gary Thompson went into his dribbling act. The Rockets waived four free throws (Insert 2005: Rules permitted the option of shooting the free throw or taking the Ball out of bounds to retain possession) and lost the Ball only once. This Ball control stopped Collins from their comeback, losing 37-33. Collins' tight defensive play allowed Roland only 15 shots in the second half. Lineup: Frerichs (f) 4 pts.; Liggett (f) 8 pts; Holland (c) 12 pts.; Carroll (g) 7 pts.; Duesbury (g) 1 pt; Larry Smith (g) 1 pt.

Consolation: In a fast-pace game Fernald led much of the game from two to seven points for a 56-54 victory. Fernald had a 39-30 half-time lead. Lineup: Frerichs (f) 14 pts.; Liggett (f) 6 pts; Holland (c) 26 pts.; Carroll (g) 4 pts.; Duesbury (g) 3 pts; Larry Smith (g) 1 pt.
