Semifinals - Collins defeated Slater 2-0, both runs coming in the first inning when Phil Holland homered after Max Liggett had singled. Duesbury pitched 7 innings. Runs - 0, hits - 3, strikeouts - 10, walks - 1. Holland caught. Team fielding errors - 1. Collins team collected four hits. Slater's scoring threat in the 6th inning was stymied when Larry Smith (ss) and Duesbury (p) executed a pickoff play at second base for a critical out.

Finals - The outcome was Boxholm 9, Collins 5. Collins led 1-0 at the end of five innings. Boxholm scored 5 runs in the 6th and 4 runs in the 7th. Collins added 2 runs in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th. Holland pitched 7 innings: Runs - 9, hits - 9, strikeouts - (?), walks - (?). Liggett was catcher. Collins collected only 4 hits in scoring their 5 runs. Collins' 7 fielding errors was a large factor in the disappointing loss, one win away from the state tourney that was held at Dysart, Iowa.(Insert 2005: Boxholm school had a reputation for good quality baseball teams.) Fall 1950 Baseball Season Summary: Collins schedules games: Won - Huxley 8-1; Slater 11-8; Cambridge 9-0. Lost - none. Sectional Tourney: Collins Won Van Cleve 4-1; Rhodes 8-1; Farrar 10-0 for the sectional championship. District Tourney: Collins won - Zearing 11-1; Slater 2-0; lost - Boxholm 9-5. Season Record: Won - 8; lost - l.

The Collins boys had a very successful season, winning 8 games and losing only 1, in the finals of the District Tournament. If the team had won, they would have earned the privilege to play in the State Tournament.

October 12, 1950 School music night will be October 23 in the auditorium. There will be prize-winning numbers from Des Moines, demonstration numbers from the school, and numbers from adults in the community. A free will offering will be taken with the proceeds used to further music activities.
