Girls Sectional Basketball Tournament at Melbourne: First round - The girls defeated Cambridge 53-29. Half-time score was tied 22. Collins' defense led by Phyllis Baker and Joanne Janes were outstanding in holding Cambridge to 7 points in the last half. Barbara Kimberley was leading scorer with 17 points. Second round - Collins girls played excellent ball with the guards, Atwood, Janes, and Oswalt being outstanding on defense as they defeated a strong Colo team 47-33. Barbara Kimberley was high point maker with 24. The three Collins forwards had a balanced scoring attack to overcome Colo's outstanding forward, Karol Buffington. Semi-final and consolation games - In the last two games of the tournament, the girls lost to the local Melbourne team 35-31. Collins did their best scoring in the first quarter, but could not keep it up throughout the game. In the consolation finals,the girls did not play up to par and were defeated 30-19 by Mingo.
