September 29, 1949 The senior class put on a nice party for the high school Monday evening in the school lunchroom. (Insert 2005: Large room on east side of third level [top floor] of 1909 grade school building. Also is elementary grades music room.) Most of the evening was spent dancing and later refreshments were served of pop, cookies and punch.

Baseball sectional tournament: First round - The Collins vs. Van Cleve game went into extra innings with Max Liggett driving in 3 runs for a 11-9 win in the 8th inning. Holland and Boozell were outstanding batters, 3 hits each. Cory and Boozell pitched. Collins collected 11 runs on 14 hits and Van Cleve 9 runs on 9 hits. Lineup: Larry Smith 0 hits; Phil Holland 3 hits; Robert Johnson 2 hits; Lonnie Boozell 3 hits; Dick Cory 3 hits; Erwin Frerichs 0 hits; Carroll Smith 2 hits; John Runyan 1 hit; Bill Sager 0 hits; Bob McBride 0 hits; Max Liggett 1 hit.

Semifinals - Collins advanced to the tournament finals by defeating Rhodes 11-1. Phil Holland, pitcher for Collins, nearly shut out Rhodes, allowing only one run while Collins scored 11 runs. Bob Johnson hit a home run and Phil Holland had 4 hits. Collins had 11 hits and 11 runs. Sectional Tourney: Collins won - Van Cleve 11-9; Rhodes 11-1; Collins lost to Clemens 14-2 in finals. Season Record - 5 wins, 1 loss. Coach - James (Jim) Mairs. Last Years Cheerleaders were re-elected for the coming year in the school assembly last week. They are Dorothy Partridge, Jackie Keagle and Joyce Tomlinson. This is the third year of cheerleading for these three girls.
