September 18, 1947 Baseball - With the superb pitching of Halterman and Stratton, Collins team defeated Cambridge 15-14. Bob Wilkening led the hitting attack with a home run, triple and double. With the aid of a home run by Wilkening and three other hits, Collins defeated Slater 5-4. Halterman pitched the opening inning and Wilkening the other five. The game was called at the end of the 6th inning because of rain. (Insert 2005: No box score found)

Home Ec News: Senior home ec class has five students - La Von Johnson, Jean Ann Coughenour, Lois Maxwell, Dolores Gardner and Norma Vasey. We are now studying care and selection of clothing. There are eleven in the freshman class. They are making notebooks on good grooming.

Thirteen members of the senior class and four teachers enjoyed a hayride and picnic at Atwood's September 14. Before the wiener roast we played softball. We thank Ronnie Stratton for providing a tractor and hay rack and a way home for everyone.

The freshmen were initiated in the high school on Monday evening by the sophomores. Each freshman took part in the initiation program and is now legally in high school. When the program was over, refreshments were served and everyone danced.

September 25, 1947 Baseball - Collins defeated Slater 4-1 on the local diamond with Halterman pitching an excellent game. Collins team had six hits. Collins defeated Huxley 7-5 with Ronnie Halterman, Ronnie Stratton, and Lonnie Boozell doing the mound duties for Collins. Collins had six hits.

Sectional baseball tournament: First round - Collins won over Cambridge 17-6.

Second round - Collins won over Fernald 14-4.

Finals - Collins won over Clemons 6-3 to win the tournament championship and advance to the District meet. Halterman pitched, allowing three hits and Long caught. October 2, 1947 District Baseball Tournament held at Collins: First round - Aplington defeated Collins 4-3. Aplington scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Halterman allowed four hits and Collins made five errors. Lineup: Ronnie Stratton (cf) 1 hits; Ronnie Halterman (p) 0 hits; Lonnie Boozell (ss) 1 hit; Bob Wilkening (3b) 1 hit; Gene Atwood (2b) 2 hits; George Tiffany (1b) 0 hits; Marlin Long (c) 1 hit; Apker (lf) 0 hits; Dick Cory (rf) 0 hits. On Wednesday afternoon Dysart defeated Aplington 1-0 in the final game. An unusual feature of this game was the winning team was held hitless by Aplington. The State Tournament will be held at Dysart October 4, 6 and 8.
