April 24, 1947 Spring Baseball Conference Tournament: First round - Collins defeated Kelley 7-2. Ronnie Stratton pitched, striking out 12. Collins' team had seven hits.

Second round - Collins defeated Huxley, 7-2. Lineup: Ronnie Halterman (p) 1 hit; Ronnie Stratton (ss) 1 hit; Dick Halterman (lf) 1 hit; Gene Atwood (1b) 2 hits; Don Huntrods (cf) 1 hit; Bob Wilkening (3b) 0 hits; Marlin Long (c) 0 hits; Lonnie Boozell (2b) 1 hit; Dick Cory (rf) 0 hits; Bill Sager (rf) 0 hits; Bob Baker (rf) 0 hits. Halterman strikeouts - 5, walked - 3.

Final round - Collins lost the championshipgame to Colo 9-8. A few days later Collins defeated Colo 8-3 in a regular season game. (No box scores found)

Track - The high school team went to Winterset for a track meet. Ronnie Stratton placed second in the mile run, the only placing by the Collins team.

May 1, 1947 The girls' glee club journeyed to Boone to participate in the State Music Contest and came home with a second rating; good work.

"Hitch Your Wagon to a Star" - the seniors of 47 were entertained last Friday evening at a lovely Junior-Senior banquet in the Colony Room of the Commodore Hotel in Des Moines. The juniors provided us with a fine dinner and cleverly decorated tables. Ronnie Halterman was toastmaster and we had four entertaining speeches given by Margie Lou Shearer, George Tiffany, Darlene Haley, and Mr. Dale Peer. From the banquet, we were escorted to the theater where we all enjoyed the "The McComber Affair." The seniors would like to say a final "Thank you, Kids."

May 8, 1947 Baccalaureate Services for the class of 1947 will be held at the Collins Church of Christ, Sunday, May 11. Program is: Processional - Mrs. Irene Browns; Music - Senior Sextet; Scripture Reading and Address - Rev. Duane Manning; Solo - George Tiffany; Benediction - Rev. Paul Varce.

The commencement exercises will be held at the high school auditorium on May 15. The program: Processional - Mrs. Irene Browns; Invocation - Rev. Paul Varce; Music - Senior Sextet; Address - "What's on the Horizon?" - Prof. H. A. Riebe, Iowa State Teachers College. Presentation of Class - Supt. Long; Awarding of Diplomas - L. D. Holland, Pres. of School Board. Class members: Wanda Anderson, Dorothy Buck, Kathryn Coughenour, Dick Halterman, Donald Huntrods, Shirley Johnson, Dean Kitchen, Frances Maxwell, Joyce Maxwell, Romaine Milligan, Jack Moore, Harold Mullihan, Clayton Neese, Carolyn Partridge, Lois Pritchard, Lowell Renfeldt, Margie Shearer, Gene Stoneberg, Marilyn Torry, Glenn Weese. Class Motto - "Not at the top, But Climbing." Colors - Blue and Gold. Flower - Talisman Rose. Presentation of Eighth Grade - Vance Stead; Benediction - Rev. Henry Esch.

Sectional Baseball Tournament held at Collins park diamond. First round - Collins bye. Second round - Collins 10, Maxwell 2. Semi-final - Rhodes 6, Collins 4. Final round Nevada 18, Rhodes 12. (No further information found.)

Home Ec News: The Home Ec. rooms have been busting with activity these last few days. On Monday evening the freshmen girls honored the freshmen boys and some of the faculty at a dinner party in which they had prepared the food. The food was fine and the evening was made complete by a trip to the theater. Tuesday evening the sophomores held a similar dinner theater for the sophomore boys and some others of the faculty.
