Wednesday night the Junior-Senior Home Ec Class put on a Valentine party for the Junior-Senior boys. The study hall was decorated in pretty red and white crepe paper, hung streamers from the lights and the girls drew fascinating pictures on the blackboard.

February 27, 1947 Grade News: First - We had social studies' lesson about George Washington whose birthday was February 22. In numbers we have started subtraction problems. Third - We are looking forward to starting division in arithmetic. Fourth - We have worked with Roman Numerals and found we will still take our present number system, as it seems much easier to us.

Dramatics - The sophomores are putting on three one-act plays. We promise you a program that will give you your money's worth. Admission - 45 cents. Between acts four freshmen girls - Arlene Baker, Joyce Tomlinson, Carol Atwood and Jackie Keagle and four freshman boys - Burrell Browns, Lane Rice, Dick Cory and Lonnie Boozell will present the musical number, "The Dream Gypsies."

March 6, 1947 Boys Sectional Basketball Tournament: First game - Collins defeated State Center 49-34. Collins had a 16-point half-time lead. Lineup: Halterman (f) - 8 pts; Atwood (f) - 26 pts; Long (c) - 7 pts; Huntrods (g) - 2 pts; Stratton (g) - 4 pts; Mullihan (g) - 2 pts.

Final round - Collins won another one-sided game 59-40 over Clemons to win the tournament championship. Collins was up 31-20 at halftime. Collins controlled the rebounds off both boards. Lineup: Halterman (f) - 9 pts; Atwood (f) - 17 pts; Long (c) - 13 pts; Huntrods (g) - 16 pts; Stratton (g) - 2 pts; Apker (g) - 2 pts: Baker (g) - 0 pts; Mullihan (g) - 0 pts; Sager (g) - 0 pts; Renfeldt (g) - 0 pts. March 13, 1947 Election day for the Collins school district passed very quietly with only 32 votes cast. Directors elected; Ernest Hofer (3-year term), K. W. Tomlinson (2-year term), Forrest Kitchen (1-year term). Holdover board members are L. D. Holland and C. W. Keagle. Treasurer - J. R. Witmer (2-year term).

Boys District Basketball Tournament at Grinnell - First round - Collins defeated Barnes City 48-32. The boys took an early lead in the game and had a 29-9 lead at the half. Fast breaks worked very well the entire game. Lineup: Halterman (f) - 19 pts; Atwood (f) - 12 pts; Long (c) - 12 pts; Huntrods (g) - 3 pts; Stratton (g) - 2 pts; Apker (g) - 2 pts: Baker (g) - 0 pts.; Mullihan (g) - 0 pts; Bill Sager (50) (g) - 0 pts; Lowell Renfeldt (47) (g) - 0 pts; Cory (50) (g) - 0 pts.

Second round - Boys lost their chance to advance to the sub-state tournament when Melbourne bombarded Collins in the third quarter to win 56-36. Halftime score was 24-21, Melbourne. Long and Huntrods fouled out in the fourth quarter. Collins couldn't match Melbourne's height.
