May 9, 1946 Sectional Baseball Tournament held at Collins. First round - Collins defeated Colo 3-1, scoring three runs on four hits. Bob Titus pitched, allowing only one hit and Earl Evans caught.

Semi-final - defeated Farrar 6-1.

Final round - defeated State Center 6-1 for the second straight year on winning the sectional tournament. Bob Titus pitched for Collins striking out 11, walked 2, allowed 3 hits and Evans was the catcher. Lineup: Stratton 1 hit; Miller 1 hit; Evans 2 hits; Holland 2 hits; Titus 1 hit; Tiffany 0 hits; Keagle 1 hit; R. Halterman 0 hits; Wolf 1 hit.

May 16, 1946 The Annual High School Prom, held in the gymnasium Monday night, was a big success in the way of attendance and enjoyment. The Jerry Sherman orchestra from Marshalltown furnished the music for dancing. The gym was attractively decorated with the class colors and baskets of flowers. Alumni of the Collins School were invited guests.

Track - Collins took third place with 34 points in the County meet held at Ames. Star performers for Collins, Ronnie Stratton placing 1st in the mile run with 4.55 and 1st in the 880 yard run - 2.12. Earl Evans took first in the shot put with 36 feet 10 inches and also 5th in the discus. Harold (Barney) Mullihan placed 4th in the broad jump and Dean Wolf tied for 1st in the high jump and was 5th in the 880 yard run. Gene Atwood placed 5th in the 120 yard hurdles.

District baseball tournament held at the Collins Park. Collins was eliminated in the first round by North High of Des Moines 5-0. Des Moines pitcher hurled hitless ball and Titus of Collins allowed only three hits. North High made three of their runs in the second inning with Collins' errors being the undoing. Collins team had an excellent season record: Won 12 and lost 2 (both in tournament games), among best in school history.

North High carried off top honors by defeating Radcliffe 2-1 in ten innings. North High reached the finals in the state tournament, losing 1-0. The team had an outstanding pitcher who was signed by the Los Angeles (Brooklyn) Dodgers baseball organization. (Insert 2005: No dividing of schools by enrollment)

May 23, 1946 Commencement exercises for the class of 1946, Collins High School, were held in the school auditorium. A very large crowd was present with the main auditorium and adjoining classrooms crowded. A new feature, which attracted many people, was the 8th Grade Graduation that followed the Senior High Graduation.

Class Motto: "Not Famous, but Faithful;" Presentation of 8th Grade - Myrtha Finn; Awarding of Diplomas - Supt. Long; Invocation - Rev. Duane Manning; Recessional - Irene Browns.
