September 8, 1945 The Collins Consolidated School opened Monday morning. An enrollment of near 235 was reported and enthusiasm was running high. The school building and grounds have undergone a thorough cleaning during the summer. A very fine faculty was on the job for the opening of school. The faculty and their residences: R. A. Long - Supt., at Collins home; Miss Helen Barger - Principal and Commercial, at Rev. Manning home; Miss Bette Buck - English and Music, at L. M. Hall home; Aber Klaaren - Agriculture, at Collins home; Mrs. Ethel Shattwell - English, at Alice Burney home; Mrs. Irene Browns - Social Science, at S. W. Inman home; Miss Myrtha Finn - Junior High, at C. E. Fish home; Mrs. Vera Vasey - 6th Grade, at Collins home; Mrs. Mabel Osborn - 5th Grade, at Alice Burney home; Mrs. Anna Moses - 4th Grade, at Collins home; Miss Cheryl Bressler - 3rd Grade, at A. W. Kracht home; Miss Helen Curtis - 2nd Grade, at Ora Hanson home; Miss Hope Robinson - Kindergarten and 1st Grade at Rev. Manning home.

October 11, 1945 Dale Peer of Atlantic, Iowa, who was recently discharged from the army, arrived in Collins Friday afternoon and will take up his duties as Principal and Mathematics teacher in the Collins School. Mr. Peer was teacher in the local school at the time of his enlistment.

December 20, 1945 The South Story County Conference Basketball Tournament at Maxwell. First round - The Huxley girls jumped into a 16-8 lead in the first quarter, half-time score 28-10 and final score of Huxley 53, Collins girls 28. Lineup: Patty Fertig - 8 pts.; Joyce Maxwell - 4 pts.; Lois Pritchard - 8 pts; Dorothy Buck - 0 pts.; Dee Gardner - 6 pts.; Wanda Anderson - 2 pts. Ramona Beavers (g); Carol Atwood (g); Romaine Milligan (g); Doris Caulkins (g); Lois Maxwell (g); Darlene Haley (g).

First round - The strong Shipley boys' team defeated Collins 37-25. Collins boys gave Shipley a battle royal in the game, although Shipley held a slight margin throughout. Shipley led 9-7 in the first quarter, 16-12 at the half, and went on to win 37-25. January 24, 1946 The Story County Girls Basketball Tournament - in spite of extremely disagreeable weather, basketball fans jammed the Roland and Maxwell field houses last evening for the first round of the girls county basketball tournament. The final two rounds will move into the larger Nevada field house on Friday and Saturday night. Playing at Maxwell Collins girls defeated Cambridge 38-20 in first round game. Collins jumped to a 12-9 first quarter lead, increased the lead to 30-11 at half time, and went on to win 38-20. Lineup: Patty Fertig - 10 pts.; Joyce Maxwell - 0 pts.; Lois Pritchard - 20 pts; Dorothy Buck - 0 pts.; Dee Gardner - 8 pts.; Wanda Anderson - 0 pts. Ramona Beavers (g); Carol Atwood (g); Romaine Milligan (g); Doris Caulkins (g); Lois Maxwell (g); Darlene Haley (g).Second round - Slater's high-scoring combination defeated Collins girls in game at Maxwell in spite of the long-range marksmanship of Patty Fertig, Collins forward, who hit 9 field goals from far out on the court. Slater led 12-7 in the opening quarter, 24-13 at half and went on to win 41-25.
