Fifth Grade: Six pupils out of 21 who had 100 in spelling were: Joan Battles, John Carver, John Duesbury, Loretta Hennick, Larry Heintz, Virginia Mead. We enjoyed a Halloween party on Tuesday.

November 16, 1944 The following are the topics to be discussed at the Collins Farmers Evening School this winter. The first class will be held Monday evening, November 20. All farmers of the community are invited to attend. November 20 - What Soils Do We Have In This Community and How Do They Compare for Raising the Various Crops? November 27 - What are the Fertility Needs of the Story County Soils? December 4 - How Can Each Farmer Test His Own Soil for Fertility? December 11 - Farm and Home Safety. December 18 - Information Needed To Buy and Use Commercial Fertilizer and Limestone Most Intelligently. January 2 - How Can We Increase Soybean Yields and What Are the Best Varieties? January 8 - Maintaining Alfalfa Stands. January 15 - Agriculture Tariffs, Now and After the War. January 22 - Corn Borer Menace. January 29 - Newest Tips on Beef Cattle Feeding; February 5 - Evening School Banquet.

Basketball: Collins boys opened their season with a bang by defeating Shipley, which had them in height, but not in speed. Collins missed 14 of 19 free throws. Boys Lineup: Miller (f) - 12 pts; Oswalt (f) - 2 pts; Renfeldt (c) - 5 pts; Marsh (g) - 4 pts; Titus (g) - 1 pt; Pritchard - 6 pts; Holland (g) - 8 pts. Collins Girls defeated Shipley 28-20.Half-time score was 13-5. Lineup: Pritchard (f) - 15 pts; Fertig (f) - 7 pts; Smith (f) - 6 pts; Crabb (g); Atkinson (g); Luing (g); Coughenour (g); Caulkins (g); Beavers (g); Maxwell (g).

November 23, 1944 Basketball - Collins boys 34, Fernald 20.Boys Lineup: Miller (f) - 11 pts; Oswalt (f) - 2 pts; Renfeldt (c) - 4 pts; Marsh (g) - 1 pts; Titus (g) - 2 pt; Pritchard - 8 pts; Holland (g) - 6 pts. Fernald defeated Collins Girls 31-28. Lineup: Pritchard (f) - 10 pts; Fertig (f) - 11 pts; Smith (f) - 7 pts; Crabb (g); Atkinson (g); Luing (g); Coughenour (g); Caulkins (g); Beavers (g); Maxwell (g).

The Dramatics Club consisting of 35 members has elected officers: Pres. - Marjorie Shearer; Vice Pres. - Marilyn Torry; Sec. - Wanda Anderson. The club decided to donate $5 to buy new music for our orchestra.

December 7, 1944 Boys Basketball - Collins wins 4th straight game, defeating Maxwell 48-33. Lineup: Miller (f) - 17 pts; Oswalt (f) - 2 pts; Renfeldt (c) - 2 pts; Marsh (g) - 9 pts; Titus (g) - 7 pt; Pritchard - 6 pts; Holland (g) - 5 pts.

Girls Basketball - Collins and Maxwell played to a tie game 23-23. Lineup: Pritchard (f) - 8 pts; Fertig (f) - 8 pts; Smith (f) - 7 pts; Crabb (g); Atkinson (g); Luing (g); Maxwell (g).

Basketball - Collins Boys Defeated Fernald 66-18. Collins Girls were defeated by Fernald 40-23.

December 14, 1944 Boys Basketball - Collins 22, Colo 17. Half-time score 8-8. The boys lost their first regular season game to Rhodes, 36-33. The boys didn't play well, but were ahead until the last minute of the game. Lineup: Miller (f) - 17 pts; Oswalt (f) - 2 pts; Renfeldt (c) - 4 pts; Titus (g) - 0 pts; Pritchard (f) - 6 pts; Holland (g) - 4 pts.
