April 20, 1944 The baseball team defeated Maxwell on the Collins diamond 7-5. Bob Titus pitched for Collins. Collins Lineup: Renfeldt - 1b; Marsh - 2b; Fertig - 3b; Huntrods - lf; Long - cf; Evans - c; Oswalt - ss; Miller - rf; Titus - p.

The various music groups and freshmen class will collaborate in a program to be presented Wednesday evening. The program will include selections by the band, girls' glee club, girls' sextet, and solos by Gene Fertig, Myrtle Haley and Joyce Maxwell. The play, "Billie's First Date," has the following cast: Gene Stoneberg, Wanda Anderson, Lois Pritchard, Harold Mullihan, Kathryn Coughenour, Ramona Beavers, Dorothy Buck, Romaine Milligan, and Donald Young.

May 4, 1944 Sectional Baseball Tournament Here on May 6, 8, and 9. Admission - Adults 35 cents, Students 20 cents. Competing teams are: Farrar, Melbourne, Mitchellville, Mingo, Nevada, Collins vs. Maxwell first round. (No information on results found.]

The Senior Class Play is "The Taming of Tuffy." Admission - Adults 35 cents, Students 15. The cast is: Lorena Moore, Otis Huntrods, Colleen Lillard, Georgena Luing, Forrest Long, Gene Fertig, Norma Smith, Dean Partridge, Harold McQuiston, Roger Huntrods.

Junior-Senior Banquet. The Collins gymnasium was the lovely setting for the Junior-Senior Banquet. The theme was the "Garden of Tomorrow." The seniors were welcomed by Russ Oswalt and response was by the senior class president, Roger Huntrods. Gloria Smith, the junior Class Vice President toasted the seniors and Colleen Lillard gave the response. The main speech of the evening was by Supt. Young.

May 18, 1944 Graduation Exercises were held on May 11. The address was given by Dr. T. A. Hippaka of Iowa State College/University. The senior with the highest scholastic standing was Roger Huntrods. The citizenship awards offered to the senior girl and boy with the highest record for worthwhile service rendered to the school during their four years in high school, were Colleen Lillard and Gene Fertig. Their names will be engraved upon the Signs Trophy. L. D. Holland, President of the school board presented diplomas. Class roll: Gene Fertig, Richard Hand, Otis Huntrods, Roger Huntrods, Colleen Lillard, Forrest Long, Georgena Luing, Harold McQuiston, Lorena Moore, Dean Partridge, James Silletto, Norma Smith.

Baccalaureate services were held in the Church of Christ (Christian Church) on May 7. The address was given by Rev. Duane Manning, pastor of the Collins Methodist Church.

August 24, 1944 The Collins School will open September 4. Due to existing circumstances, we have been forced to drop Home Ec from the curriculum for one year as we were unable to hire a teacher at the salary offered. Registration will take place August 28 through August 31. Book rental and locker fees will be paid at that time. Hot lunches will begin on September 5. Four cooks have again been hired to prepare the meals.
