School Bus Routes The Office of Defense Transportation (ODT) has ordered a drastic cut to be made in school bus mileage. According to ODT directions, pupils will be required to walk a distance of not more than one and a half miles to meet school buses. Since no gasoline certificates will be issued to the local school district after April 1, unless such regulations are met, the local board of education has no alternative except to comply with ODT regulations. [Insert 2004: My personal experience (8-10 yrs.) was walking .4 miles to and from Hwy for the school bus. Bus routes were to avoid back-tracking.]

Assembly Speaker Monday morning was Dr. Hal Dewey, who has spent 23 years in India as a Methodist missionary. Dr. Dewey gave a very interesting talk about life in India. He told of the hardships of the life of most of the people, the lack of opportunities for education among lower classes, the religious differences and customs. He is a friend and admirer of Mahatma Gandhi, and gave us a very different impression of the Hindu leader. He demonstrated the mode of dress in India and also showed us some of the beautiful objects in metal and needlework made by pupils in the missionary school.
